I don't know if this is relevant to your situation, but I was thinking at work the other day that someone (me) should issue people with a license to argue.
That way, I won't get stuck having to justify my actions to some clown who's too thick to understand the logic, and is just obstructing me out of bloody-mindedness/bucolic intellect/get-away-from-me-you-idiot-ness anyway.
As for a rec (from your last post), this is one of my favourite Sirius stories ever. The author's not on LJ (yet).
Thanks, Esinde. For the hugs and for the link! I took a peek at the fic and came across the fabulous line You are only fifteen, after all, and the private lives of adults are hardly an open book to you, even if you are the famous Boy-Who-Lived. You’re also the boy who has not lived all that long just yet. *g* I'll certainly keep reading! :)

That's SO true. SO true.
But anyway. It's the weekend now. I won't think about it again before next week.
I really like that writer. Did you ever read 'Sirius Laughed'? That was the first time I ever truly fell for a first hand narrative. It was masterful, and very much a Lupin sort of voice. Is she going to write any more stuff? She only wrote two R/S, with the promise of a novella to come and then *poof* she disappeared.
"Sirius Laughed" is that one fic that I keep meaning to read and still I never get around to it.
Sometimes people just disappear from the fandom. Canis M. for example was one of the most popular, if not THE most popular R/S writers before OOTP came out (and it was well-deserved, too), and yet she moved on to other things and other fandom. There's nothing we can do but respect that.
D_T, you still write?
Why, of course. It's not something you suddenly stop doing, is it? I'm just terribly, terribly slow, that's all.

She wrote 'A Fearful Business'or something along those lines? I rememeber liking her characters because they seemed so distinct and had a nodding aquaintance with the english culture - but yes, I can see where OoTP would have killed that vibe. Intersting though, that after she left, I can't really think of any BNF's in Black/Lupin at all. I can think of good writers, but not BNF's.
Or is that just me? *Hmmm* :/
You should read "Sirius Laughed". If nothing else, read it because it's a great epitaph for a friend by a friend, and it's also the best male oriented approach to The Prank that I've seen in fandom- so far.
No wank, no angst, nor 12 year old girl hand twisting that runs rife.
Why, of course. It's not something you suddenly stop doing, is it?
I wouldn't know. I've come to realize that it is a vocation that I haven't been called to, really.
Funny, I'd never seen any R/S vibes in PoA and GoF, it was OotP that hit me right in the face in that sense.

thistlerose? casirafics? To name but a few. And of course being a BNF and being a good writer is not necessarily the same, it's quite logical that there should be both in all fandoms and ships...

Vocation is a big word. Maybe it's a habit, a habit of cultivating plot bunnies and expressing yourself through writing. Other people choose other ways of expressing themselves.

Oh yes. And loved it. I don't recall it being as upbeat as “The shape of his hands” though, so I didn't rec it here.
Last I heard from the author (this was back in October last year) was that she was writing a longish story on Sirius' years in Azkaban.
Don't know if she's actually disappeared from the fandom - it's hard to tell when someone isn't on LJ, since their participation is measured only by their output...
