Whew! What a weekend! First of all, Friday afternoon
murnkay started a battle royale that netted me a new friend, the leader of the Canuck Squirrel Offensive,
culloden. She's a good fighter and a valuable ally.
prying_pandora is also here as the result of a skirmish (this one on the Python group). She and I have so much in common, it's scary we haven't connected before now. Lastly (but not leastly),
omegas_blue_6iz is here via the story thread from last week. He has a great Weasley Twins icon and is a cute little penguin. Welcome to all of my new friends. I hope you enjoy reading my little offerings.
Now for the weekend. Friday night
defixione & I went to the Movie Prom. We had a merry adventure finding the location but still the night went very well. Once there, I went on full-snark mode (how could you not with the clothing everyone was wearing? It was a night of polyester overload but was incredibly fun. We had our picture taken (it's a polaroid so I'll have to wait for ANC to post pics to link) and danced to wonderfully corny songs. We are scary food (rice krispy treats should not be TEAL) and got free beers from a couple of late comers (free booze! Yea!). We went to Steak & Shake afterwards and laughed way too much while having our shakes (which took forever). It was much better than my actual prom so I'm very happy.
Saturday
beldar & I actually saw movies! We went to the dollar theater and saw "Madagascar" and then after some brief shopping, caught "5 Children and It". Madagascar was cute but it needed more penguins. All those lemur scenes kept making me hungry.
However, the other film was fantastic. It's based on a British children's book by E. Nesbit. The story is set during World War One and the 5 children are being sent to live with their eccentric uncle while their father goes off to fly in the war and their mother stays in London to tend to the wounded. Kenneth Branagh plays the uncle who tends to lose things, like Thursday and October. His own son is a creepy little bully and the housekeeper is more on-the-ball than she appears to be. They children are going bonkers trapped in the dreary house full of impossible rules so they break the number one rule and go into the greenhouse. There they find a locked door that is magically opened by the baby and which leads to a sunny beach where they find it. Eddie Izzard is the voice of it which is actually a sand fairy. He can grant one wish a day but it will surely go wrong and ends at sunset. It's a wonderful family romp and a touching modern fairy tale. Do go see it if you ever get the chance.
After the movies we stopped at a fairly new Thai restaurant, Thai Spice and had BLAZING HOT food. It was delicious but they really take their heat levels seriously (their medium is equivilant to everyone else's Hot or Very Hot).
Sunday we almost skipped church as we are still somewhat sick.
beldar's back's acting up again too. However, we did make it to church which was very good as we were lunch hosts. After lunch we went home and caught up on more of our recordings. We're now all caught up on Threshold, My Name is Earl, Rome, and Charmed. Tonight we'll catch up one Supernatural, Night Stalker and Weeds (possibly more). BBCAmerica ran a "
Little Britan" marathon and we caught the last two episodes so now
beldar is noticable scarred by Harvey's "eating disorder".
Today we celebrated Boss' Day but since both of my bosses were on PTO, we just ate some of the most delicious Cheesecake drenched in whipped cream and strawberries. I send Bruce an email describing how wonderful it was and he sent back a reply saying that he would just have to settle for sipping his drink and playing in the park with his children in the warm glorious sun. I still <3 him.
TTFN!
