Well, this has been a really great weekend so far.
smithwick1974's Birthday party Friday night was great. I got to hang out with Ian (he has an LJ but never uses it so I don't remember his LJ name) who became my personal "squeaky-toy" for the night (he made the cutest little giggling sounds whenever I'd stroke his nipples). There were lots of other friends there both on and off LJ. It was a blast.
I'd also like to welcome my newest reader
tears_embrace. She's been a friend of
beldar's for a while now and decided to come over to "have a taste of The Dark Snack". I'm glad to have her aboard.
Now, on to Saturday. Unfortunately,
astria was sick and
veronica_rich wasn't able to make it either so it was just myself and
beldar at the various events (IMAF, Talbot Street Art Fair & Italian Festival). This was the first year that we attended the Italian Festival and it was really fun. They had lots of food (most of it was stuff we could make at home but a few things weren't). They had a wonderful take on manicotti by using lasagna noodles to wrap the filling in rather than the traditional crepe-like pasta sheet and the most amazingly delicious cannoli in the world. Since they were rained out on Friday they're extending the festival through tonight and we're contemplating going back by to get more cannoli (they were a great bargain at 2 for $5.00).
Today has been fun as well. We went to church today and in addition to the traditional honoring of Fathers in the congregation by passing out carnations, Pastor Pooky gave a truly moving sermon. Since it dealt with such an important issue, I will be posting a link to the webcast of it tomorrow (or as soon as it's up on the website). Also, for any of you out there who would like to know more about our church or hear/see any of our webcasts (our pastor is an excellent speaker and his sermons are wonderful to hear), feel free to
check out the church's website. I know there are some of you out there who do not have access to a place like this or might enjoy a more positive Christian outlook than the one presented by most churches so I hope that this will help all of you to understand that not all Christians spread the gospel of hatred and judgment, there are a few of them out there who are true to Jesus's teachings of love and acceptance.
*note* Remember, I am not by any means what anyone would consider to be a "Christian". I still follow a Pagan path but it has led me to work with this congregation and they are supporting of me and my beliefs and I have never been in any religious setting that has been so full of love and purity of purpose as this on so I gladly worship with them in my own way.
After church we made our way to Greenfield so that
beldar could finish up some work (we might have missed the party if he had not put it off until today). Plus this way I can file my unemployment claim today and my money will get into my account and transferred over quicker.
Before arriving here we went to the nearby chinese place for lunch. It was really nice as they had a lot of new dishes offered including lettuce wraps. I filled up almost immediately (I'm really eating a lot less these days with the hot weather and all) but still had a lovely meal. While we were there I noticed something really unusual but ingenious that they did. After they seated someone, they placed a tip tray on a nearby table with 3 one dollar bills fanned out in it. This would remain in place during the entire meal. It was a nice reminder not only to tip, but a suggestion of how much would be acceptable. I've never seen any other place do this but I must admit it is a brilliant strategy.
While we were there we noticed a sweet elderly (oh, late 50's, early 60's or so) priest nearby regaling the staff with stories of his missionary trips abroad. As we were leaving I snatched the carnation out of
beldar's shirt pocket (he's always somewhat embarrassed by the whole fatherhood thing anyway) and gave it to the priest with a kiss and wished him a Happy Father's Day. It was just one of those times when you feel the need to pass along some love to someone who's not expecting it.
Well, I hope that everyone out there is having a great Father's Day. My love to all of you and your fathers (be they biological or mentorial). I will talk to you again tomorrow.
TTFN!
