The dreaded Penguicon post! Here at last.

Alrighty, please keep in mind that I was rather ill for the whole convention so I was not able to enjoy it as much as possible. That said, I still had a wonderful time.

Thursday night we finished up last minute packing and had dinner with astria at Jockamo's. What with my illness and all, I got maybe a total of two hours sleep the whole night so I was very wide awake for the earthquake. It felt like a rush of tornadic wind just hit the corner of the house making a strong noise and shaking the windows. Other than that, not much else. After we all got up and got ready we set off on our journey.

The ride up was very nice and we made decent time. The Lincoln Museum was nice. Unfortunately, the winery was sold out of Cider so our jug remains unfilled. I'm going to have to call up there next year and make sure they hold one back for us. Traffic was bad and my throat kept getting more & more dry but we managed to stop and get some throat drops & water before we made it to the hotel.

One funny thing was that for the couple of blocks just before the hotel the car in front of us had some people in it and the driver was gesticulating wildly. I started gesturing back and after a while he noticed me and they all started mimicing that. We ended up running into them at opening ceremonies. It was pretty funny.

As for the hotel, they totally sucked. The screwed over friendstephen's credit card and put us in the worst room possible. On the top floor as far from anything (including an elevator) as possible. The air conditioning barely worked and I think some of the lingering effects of my sickness are due to some of these problems. Still, we made the best of it.

I ended up with a horrible sunburn on my right arm from the drive up (it's peeling pretty badly today) so that didn't help anything at all. Still, I had fun. Opening ceremonies were good. Since he did a zombie number in the show, we ended up showing filkertom our "Zombie Helper" which he ended up keeping (we've got to get some more). After that was the FuMP concert and a marionette performance of "Shoggoth on the Roof". While the FuMP show was amazing (I probably would have enjoyed it more if I had been able to speak), the puppet show was pretty bad. It was a rather snakebit production but it was so awful we enjoyed it. They finally put it out of it's misery rather than continue our suffering.

On Saturday we had free breakfast buffet coupons from the hotel and that was nice although I could barely eat anything the whole weekend. I went to a panel that was supposed to be about how to look like a pinup girl but ended up being about makeup tricks for burlesque. Afterwards, beldar & I ran up to Flint to check out the MC Escher exhibit. It was great. They had some amazing works and seeing them in person is really wonderful. The museum also had a stuffed dog by the door that was strange because when you got up close you could see it had four eyes. I didn't get a picture of it but it was still strange.

I really don't remember too much about the rest of the day other than attending some panels (including the "Best Webcomics You're Not Reading" panel which turned into the stump me panel because I read everything the mentioned). The masquerade was pretty good even though they had a very small turnout all of the entries were excellent. I really need to bring a costume next year.

The parties were also very fun. I loved that the pirate group made a portable party barge and went along "boarding" other parties. I really hated that I could barely breathe or move around because I was really having a good time.

Sunday was spent pretty much packing up and wrapping up. I had a great time hanging out with some of the webcomics artist and finally got to meet Jennie Breeden (I'm going to be in an upcoming comic!). The world didn't implode although I did get the "scared of you" look from Randall Munroe of XKCD when I was talking to him about the sex with dogs dream. Still, I had a great time and can't wait until next year.

I'm sure there were a bunch of other things I meant to tell you about but I'll try to post them as they come to me. Otherwise, this is it.
