After the little encounter with the Englisg guy who was very tall, at the newstand, I found myself having to contact the mayor ( Read more... )

I was still in my bed. Being the mayor of the fine city of Sunnydale, gave me the luxury of sleeping unti eight or eight thirty and then reporting to the office at nine, or thereabouts.

Anything that I might be needed for before nine, would be handled rather intensely by Allen, who was a bit uptight, but was effective when it came to taking orders.

I did not like to be awakened so early, and when I grabbed the cellular phone on my nightstand, I saw that it was the little rodent, Snyder.

This had better be good to wake me from my beauty sleep. "Hello,"

"Hi, mayor Wilkins, It's principal Snyder, here, I didn't wake you, did I?"

It sounded like I had, although the leader of the city at almost seven in the morning should have been up, with all of the things that had to be on his docket for the day, with having to run the city and all.

The fact that he sounded as if he had been awakened from sleep, was just weird.

"As a matter of fact, principal Snyder, you did wake me, and I don't appreciate being awakened from my sleep, prematurely, it turns me into a real bear for the rest of the day, and nobody likes that, trust me."

I sat up, cleaning the cobwebs out. I was tempted to tell him to call back, but I could just make this a brief conversation and then go back to bed for another hour, possibly even two, and then go to work late.

"So why are you calling me so early, Snyder?"

"Well, sir, I was on my way to the elementary school, and I stopped at the newsstand to pick myself up a paper to see what kind of drug news and or busts that had occurred in the city as always, when I bumped into a rather tall, and rude British man. He insulted me, but then I found that he is the librarian at Sunnydale High School, and I thought of our earlier conversation."

It wasn't like me to talk so much, but I was curious as to what kind of decision that he was going to make about that idiot, Flutie.

"I see," I said, wiping some sandmen away from my eyes, before wiping both my face and my hands with a handy wipe that I kept on the nightstand.

"You didn't like Rupert Giles when you encountered him this morning, and you wanted an update about where you stood in terms of replacing Flutie at the high school?"

He said yes sir.

"Well, Snyder, I have to tell you that I like your iniative. Nothing says success like a little stick-toativeness, my mother used to say."

I respected the mayor. He was the man in power. But the way that he was always bringing up his mother's quotes was just, well, weird.

"No sir, I can't say that I did like him. He was too tall, was rude, and was kind of creepy. When he mentioned that he worked at the high school, it prompted me to think of you and our discussion, sir."

I hated saying sir, but again, he was the man in power, and I had to show respect to that, just like I wanted people to show me repsect, much like this Rupert Giles this morning, hadn't.

"Your coversation with Rupert Giles made you want the popromotion to the principal of the high school? Am I understanding you correctly, Snyder?"

He told me, in a sniveling, nauseating way that he was, and I had to hold back a gag of revulsion and wipe my face with a handi-wipe just at the content of the conversation.

"For the record, nothing formal has been done by my office when it comes to replacing principal Flutie, but we are keeping our eye...I am keeping my eyes on him."

That was disappointing to me. Flutie was incompetent and anyone could see that, especially someone who was as knowledged as Mayor Wilkins was.

"I am sorry to hear that, sir, but please keep me in mind if you do decide that Flutie just let's those high school punks and sluts run around."

I thought for a minute. "Mr. Mayor, you know this Rupert Giles man?"

"I do, principal Snyder. As mayor of this fine Hamlet, it is my responsibility to meet with all of the new teachers, or in this case, librarians who are responsible for molding our children into fine young people. So, as a result, I took the liberty of meeting with him. He seemed like a kind sort, a chipper man to me, probably very good for the high school. Apparently, principal Snyder, you do not feel that way."

I didn't really. The guy was weird. He gave me the creeps.

But, I wasn't about to express that to the fine Mayor. "I wouldn't say that, sir. He was just rude. And if he is rude to strangers on the street, then it would be smart to consider that he might not be the best role model for our children."

I hated being this way. It made me want to gag. I was really going to make some of the members at the elementary school staff suffer today.

Yeah, like Principal Snyder expected me to believe that he was all-caring for the children of our community.

I knew that this wasn't the case. What I did like about Snyder, was that he was a disciplinarian, and his influence at the high school would be better suited then would Flutie's, considering the true nature of this town, that I knew about and some others on my staff did, but that Snyder himself didn't know.

Although, I would tell him when I thought that the time was right, and when he was indeed the high school principal.

"Again, I like your style, Mr. Snyder. That's why you are at the top of the list to replace Flutie, when and if that comes to pass."

"Well, sir, I won't let you down if that is the decision that is made."

As I said it, a little punk couple on their way to the high school stepped out in front of my car, causing me to have to slam on the brakes, blare the horn, and then scream out the window to them.

"You kids had better watch where you are going. This is a street, not a sidewalk! Are the two of you on drugs?"

They just ignored me and walked away as I listened to the Mayor.

He was a bit of a rodent of a man, actually, but his style, effective.

"I heard that, Mr. Snyder. Kids and drug use is very much a problem in today's society. I feel that it is important to keep the drug problems of our youth under control. You have just affirmed my decision to want you at the high school."

I really couldn't wait until it was done, because this was not a man that one liked to give praise to.

I had barely stopped listening to the young girl and boy yelling back at me when the mayor told me that he did want me at the high school.

Before I answered the Mayor, I couldn't help but think that the disrespect in these kids today was just appaling.

"So, when do you expect to make your case to the school board about Flutie, and myself, Mr. Mayor?"

I roled over in my bed, starting to get the feeling that I might not get to sleep.

I hated not getting a good night's sleep. My mother, bless her soul, had to be rolling over in her grave at this latest interrupted sleep.

"We, I will evaluate things further, Mr. Snyder and you will be the first to know about what our plans for Flutie are."
