Give me some time. The next time I make any reference to music of my own, people will be surprised by it. It will be something inherently greater because I have submitted myself to the discipline necessary to properly create anything of value. Before this time I wrote nothing of any worth. I think that outside of treating pop music as an art experiment, and approaching it from that angle- I will never again write music with lyrics or concepts.
The more time I spend personally embroiled in studying the masters, the more I move backwards, the more I see the validity of Verdi's quote used on the inside sleeve of the Green album- music has been in a state of rapid decay since the age of Wagner, since the age of the dramatist- he gave music back to the commoner and in so doing, ruined it.
True "elitism" is acknowledging that music shouldn't belong to the free world- that the principles of democracy and the free exchange of "ideals" are anathema to art. Ignorance reigns supreme- decadence is the norm. Any idiot can plug in his guitar and write a fluke "hit" song- that's the only criteria that matters to the world anymore- and even the indie kids, the scenesters, the hipsters- what do they want? Music that touches them personally in some special way- to "identify" with actors telling lies through the medium of music. To be pandered to..........."Reedemed" to allude to the disgusting phrase Wagner used to end one of his works.
Music is dying of a sickness, glossed over under the glow of "modernity". Let those who have it in them turn back to the disciplines that preceded the rise of this sickness and bring about a new progression, a new evolution. A return to perfection in music.
duh.
