Hi! My name's Irene, and I'm new here. ^^; I had the Temeraire series recommended to me by a few friends - I just finished His Majesty's Dragon yesterday and fell head over heels in love with Naomi Novik's world. :D I've put Throne of Jade and Black Powder War on reserve at the local library, too.
Anyway, the main reason I made this post, aside from the rather generic introduction, is that I'm currently in the middle of a fic set a few years before His Majesty's Dragon takes place. I've got a few questions, and if any of you could answer them or at least provide some speculation on how they might be answered, I would be most appreciative. :)
If I'm not mistaken, His Majesty's Dragon mentions Toulon, France a few times. Portland says that there's a blockade there, and if I recall correctly, dragons at Toulon are mentioned elsewhere in the book (British or French, I don't recall - I've been trying to find the correct page but it's so far eluded me). Canonically speaking, is there a French covert in Toulon? If it's never mentioned, would it be safe to assume there is?
Also, what's the standard procedure after a dragon's been captured? The text says that it's proper to withdraw from the battlefield when boarded. The last we see of Granby is him directing the Pêcheur-Rayé toward Dover; what happens afterward?
