Tonight the Z man and I started the Scotch mini tour. 5 scotches by the end of April. Plenty doable.
Tonights entre was Johnny Walker Green. This was touted as pretty middle of the road as far as the scotches they are offering so we figured a good place to start. At first whiff the alocohl is about all you get along with some grassiness. Afte that though other aromas come out. Especially for me the vanilla was there. Same thing with taste. First taste burned the tongue a bit and the roof of my mouth. Then I added just a few drops of water on their recommendation. This ended up making it.... watery. But still enjoyable. The burn was gone. A lot of the alcohol aroma was gone leaving the vanilla and herbs. A good start. Can't wait to try some more.
After that it was beer time. Tonight our draft was a Murphy's Red Ale. This one kind of fell flat to me. Actually it was pretty much as advertised. Nice color and all, just a bit light to me. More along the line of a Sam Adams or MGD than anything all that different.
Next I tried the North Coast Red Seal. Another red ale but this one packed more flavor. A little more hoppy bitterness but not too much like some IPAs. I liked this one a lot.
And now some OLD SCHOOL JOHN LEE HOOKER:
