Come on, this isn't even close. traviceratops August 31 2006, 04:29:00 UTC
John Stockton ftw. 2 years does not a career make.

This could be different ten years from now, though.

Actually, Nash is already in his 30s, right? There's no way he'll ever compare to Stockton.

Stockton had eyes in the back of his head, and he wasn't just Malone's "chauffeur". He didn't just obliterate the assist record, he holds the NBA record for steals, too.

John Stockton had the best intagibles of any point guard of all time except for Magic and possibly Bob Cousy.

You don't measure them. You observe them. It's the way a quarterback knows just how long he can stay in the pocket without getting knocked on his ass or having to scramble and throwing an errant pass, or the way a great hockey center can see the play developing around him before it happens, or the way Derek Jeter just happened to be where he was to make that toss to the catcher to nail that runner in the world series, when say, Scott Brosius wouldn't have made that play.

Things that the great players do that couldn't be measured quantitatively, but win games.

Gotta go old school with Stockton. The best white point guard there ever was, and will be.

clearly nash is a better point guard. the only edge stockton has is on defence---but dont' forget, johnny s had a malone and a hornacek at all times. nash continually sees his guys on the suns go down to injuries. he makes guys play better than they are way more than stockton ever did. i fear those guys equally shooting from the perimeter, but i think nash would do a hell of a lot more with nothing than stockton would. malone played dirty, was clearly a first ballot hall of famer, and was always there for j.s. nash just hasn't had that guy, even with nowitzki. malone would never have melted down like nowitzki did last year, nash stockton or no.

either wya, there's no debate in my mind. in a few years, chris paul will put both these guys and i. thomas to shame. hell, he'd already probably be a better GM than thomas.
