Currently the only other story in this little ficlet series. LOL, it gets shorter and shorter.
When the boy wakes up, the first thing he sees is a crack on the ceiling. It’s ominous, he thinks.
He doesn’t remember anything. What’s his name? Where is he? Why is it so white? Why does it feel so stifling? He looks outside and he sees a black sky dotted with stars and a red moon.
Oh.
The screams of “Brother! Brother, where are you?” echo in the lonely hospital hallways and in the hearts of anyone who hears it. Even the hardiest of med-nin shudder just a little bit.
The next time Sasuke wakes up, it’s morning. The sun is up in the air and shining brightly. Birds are chirping and children are laughing outside. Konoha, for a ninja village, is very noisy.
Sasuke’s room is bright and white and cheery. There are flowers and get-well cards on the table beside his bed. They're probably from his classmates. He can't think of anyone else who would give him those things. He stares at the flowers and the cards before he rubs his eyes.
He hates closing his eyes because when he does, he starts seeing his uncle, his aunt, his mother, his father, everyone he knew, all bloody and horrified and shocked and-- There’s just too much blood.
He hates even more when he opens his eyes. Because that’s when he realizes that he’s all alone and that he doesn’t know where his brother is, but he gets a feeling that Itachi won’t be coming back for him because Itachi might be dead like mother and father. Still he shakes his head and hopes.
During his stay in the hospital, there are times when he wonders when he’s going to wake-up. He stops wondering when he’s discharged and put in an apartment where they say he’ll be living in from now on.
A month later, it’s with an expressionless face that he says, “I’m home,” to Itachi’s room back in the Uchiha Complex. He can still smell the blood in the air and he can still see the stains on the ground, the floor, the lamps, the walls, everywhere.
Someone says, “Welcome back.” Sasuke turns around and sees his mother. He raises his hands and tries to touch her arm, but she fades away.
He blinks. He forgets why his arm is raised and he doesn’t know why there’s this prickling feeling building up in the edges of his eyes.
