Yesterday I took Mini in for her annual service. Some of you may recall that a year ago she had major issues and they ended up re-machining her head gasket, it was a manufacturers defect. Anyway, since then she's been burning about a quart of oil a month and just running a bit rough. You could hear the air getting sucked into the engine (the wrong way) when you lifted your foot off the accelerator and coasted at high rates of speed.
Himself and I have been talking about replacing her since at least October. We had her fully paid off 3 years ago now and his car was paid off in January. So, we've used Mini's build-a-car feature on their website multiple times, took out the Countryman for a test drive twice. Last year we even had a Clubman as a loaner while Mini's head gasket was out.
To make a long story short. I took Mini in for service and while I was there took a look at the Clubman's they had available and ended up doing a trade-in. Whee!
Here's my new Mini:
It's a slightly larger version of the basic Mini, I consider it the Mini Stationwagon, and there's actually enough room in the back seat for a person of Kirk's size to be able to sit comfortably. It has all the features I wanted, plus some, and it's a 6-speed manual transmission.
I was enamored of the new Countryman that came out, it's the Mini SUV. The only problem was that they raised the seat platform by a couple of inches and Kirk's vision was blocked by the center mirror. Plus, the two side mirrors wouldn't shift enough to allow him to actually look at the cars on the road, just the pavement.
The thing that shocked me the most? They gave me $5k for my old Mini. :D
