So today is something of an event - for the first time in far too long I've actually been able to post fic here! :) I wrote
Chain Reaction as a pinch hit for the 5th
mcshep_match and *loved* the whole experience. It had been over a year since I'd last written anything and I can't tell you how lovely it was to write the boys again! ♥
Like many of you, telling stories is an integral part of who I am. Discovering fanfic and LJ was something of a revelation for me -- for the first time I could actually write my stories down and share them instead of keeping them locked up in my head. I've loved participating in fandom - reading, writing and sharing stories. Since the birth of my daughter, time has been at a real premium. Juggling motherhood and my job has left precious little time and for far too long my stories have been locked up in my head once more. Having rediscovered just how much fun it is to set them free, I am going to *make* time for writing, even if it just a few hundred words a couple of days a week.
I've known for a while that many fanfic writers have crossed over into pro fic. That's not something I ever really considered to any serious degree - insecurity being the main issue. I've watched with pleasure as
sgamadison's pro writer career has taken off. I'm sure you'll all agree that she is a fantastic author who deserves to be published. I was checking out some of her work and poking around one of the publisher's websites when I happened upon a call for submissions for a m/m anthology to be titled 'Higher Learning'. As I'm sure most of you know, I work at a university and love getting a bit of science into my fics. As such, I couldn't resist sending in a short story in response to the call. As soon as I hit the 'send' button I wished I could recall it -- I'd basically send 4K of math porn to some random publisher and I was so embarrassed!! To my surprise and delight, the short story was accepted... I was gobsmacked.
So, if any of you are interested, I have a short story in the
Higher Learning anthology. My pen name is Claire Russett. I received my print copies of the anthology yesterday and they are *gorgeous*. I have to admit that I might have stroked them lovingly for a bit before putting them in my bookshelf. :) I'm not a fast writer and, like I said, time is precious at the moment, but I do want to keep writing. Fingers crossed, more fanfic and the odd pro short story will be in my future. I'll keep you posted...!
