Oh, and the director of the shoot isn't actually a teacher at all. We all got assigned roles randomly (and by randomly I mean, pretty randomly) for each of three shoots; ranging from director to boom miker operator. I didn't happen to get director ever, which I was fine with. I got Art director (which sounded exciting), Clapper loader (the worse job), Camera Operator (Surprisingly supurfluous job - the D.O.P. arranged the shots, the "focus puller" did the complicated cameraing, the grips moved the camera, and half the time the director wanted to look in the eyepiece). AND... I got to be the Sound editor for one of the shoots too.
What I was bad, was the director I got when I was art director wanted a simple set, and already had all the artistic concepts set in concrete - before anything. So although I attempted input, my only job was buy little cupcake flags. Then I was put on sound design for that same shoot, and thus the same director. And low and behold, she wanted a simple sound design... of NO music or sound effects!
So, she certainly wasn't meaning any harm, but I was a bit worried the teacher (who was quite a good teacher... abit obsessed with old stuff, but good non the less) would notice the lack of art direction from me, the lack of sound from me, and think I'm a bad student.
