You should have been there tonight, Tim. Chris got raped by the devil, playing The Devil Went Down to Georgia on hard mode. He seemed to really take to it though, because he kept going back for more. Too bad you got the Wii and not the Xbox or you could play each other online.

Keep me posted on this 60s to present song list, cause I love that kind of shit. I have funny lists like that all over the place. Mostly just books and movies though.

I decided my strategy for making that list. I'll just brainstorm all of my favorite songs over the next couple weeks, write them down on a notepad as they come to me. Then I'll look up what year each of them was released, and decide on my favorite.

I consulted the Billboard Pop Music Charts. Believe it or not, I picked ones near the top for each year. I was going to mix things up by adding some Michael Jackson, Michael Bolton, or Eminem to the list, but Ricky Martin is enough of a fag for the entire list. If I could find a list for 2000 I wanted to include Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears.

Unfortunately, a song's popularity is no indicator of it's aesthetic value. I remember Walker once doing something like that for a Popular History of Rock and Roll, where all of the small but influential musicians had been weeded out in favor of blockbusters. His point I believe, was how subjective artistic opinions are, but an educated community's consensus is still better than nothing.

I tried to do what you are doing a few years ago. However, I only had my own mp3s to go by and I'm not altogether happy with it now. There were a lot of songs I wish I had, but couldn't think of at the time too.
