Legend of Korra episode review/comic ("Out of the Past")

This episode had some great things going for it (YAY for finally getting to see the 40-year-old gAang in all their kick ass, grown up glory) . But there was one element that bothered me. A LOT. And I opted to vent my frustration in comic form.

Needless to say, the comic and subsequent rant totally spoils the episode's plot. You've been warned.

Mako is getting on my nerves, too. The other thing that bugged me about this episode was the fact that Mako got more upset about Korra's kidnapping than he did about his own brother's kidnapping a few episodes prior. Mako was able to keep his cool when searching for his one living relative; but he loses his mind in the same situation when it involves a girl he's only known for a few weeks!? His character seems pretty inconsistent to me.

Here's another odd thing about Asami that someone brought up to me...
It's weird that a sociable/pretty/popular girl like Asami doesn't have any close friends outside Team Avatar. It's like she didn't have a life before she rammed Mako with her bike. In that context, I guess it's not surprising that she's gone full Bunny Boiler.

I REALLY wish Mike and Byran would try to stop writing romance because they both really suck at it, or at least bring in someone that does better at romance than them.

I never had problems with their romance writing in the original show. Yeah, it was dopey and sappy. But I gave them points for avoiding the common trap of reducing all the chicks to mindless penis-chasers.
I don't know why that changed with this show. Maybe it's because LoK has a female lead. Or perhaps Mike and Brian watched a bunch of episodes of the-show-that-shall-not-be-named and it rotted their brains.
