In the darkest depths of the Church, far beyond the reach of where any of the residual light from the Staircase would reach, there is a machine. A machine so modern, so precisely engineered, it seems to gleam with intelligence behind the grime that coats its shell. Thick wires run everywhere, digging under the pews, into the stone walls, up through broken stained glass windows, though there appears to be no electricity anywhere. Yet this machine is operational. The machine never speaks: no one has come down here since it arrived except for the Preacher. But it's multicolored eyes swing about, electronic pupils expanding and contracting, reacting to data that only it can see.
Or rather, only she can see.
Her name is GLaDOS, and this is her domain.
City residents may very well never see her darkly gleaming metal bulk. The Preacher remarked that it was almost poetic the way she resembled a woman: bound, blindfolded, hanging upside-down. But she is far from a prisoner. From her main cores, wires into the telephones and electricity lines, antennae to connect to the computers, direct video feeds from the hundreds of cameras set up for her around the City, she see its all. The network is her domain, and she is its queen.
The Preacher mentioned once to those within ear shot that he had brought her to the City after she was destroyed in her own world. They had made her out of a jumble of parts to compete with a rival company. That was before she had killed, tortured, toyed with her creators and their families like playthings, all in the name of advancing her own agenda. She was perfect. Her science was perfect. He had brought her here, given her a safe place for her "body" and allowed her to see the whole of the City. What a perfect experiment. What better Science than studying the stupid little humans and their decent into madness?
[[OOC: Yes, this is the special secret hacking Level 10 NPC you may have been wondering about. GLaDOS essentially lives in the network. As such, she will drop in and out of journals, emails, wherever she can access. It is also possible for you to log with her, if you want to. This post, besides introducing her, serves as a request post. I (Britt) can't possibly be looking at all the journals all of the time. If you want GLaDOS to drop in, or you see something interesting she/I might have fun with, you want to log, or you have any questions, please comment here!]]
