Blues week project turned into a rapping catastrophy
To understand how people think and live, one must understand their culture. To understand the way of life of many young urban African American people in the United States today, understanding the particular culture which defines their life is crucial. This culture is hip-hop, or rap. The name is not important, but the culture is. The lives of many young urban African American people are filled with stereotypes, gangs, and the hope to succeed in life. One way to understand the background of their lives is to try to understand hip-hop.
What is rap?
According to the Collins Cobuild English Dictionary rap is 'a type of music in which the words are not sung but are spoken in a rapid, rhythmic way.' Rapping is very fast, rhythmical and accentuated, reminiscent of a jazz-singing style called scat.
