I just watched Avenue Q a few hours ago with
AD and
Vims and Jeanne and Jomelle(sp?) and Irvin(sp?). Whoo! So much fun!
Once again, Rachel Alejandro amazes me with her vocal range and flexibility. Not a lot of singers can pull of 2 characters as diverse as Kate Monster and Lucy T. Slut, not to mention have them verbally snipe at one another repeatedly throughout the show, but she pulls it off! Whoo! Why aren't you more famous?
Felix Rivera did great as both Princeton and Rod - he's endearingly idealistic as the former, and painfully closeted as the latter. And moreso than Rachel Alejandro, he had to do a lot of vocal heavy lifting in this show, as most of the songs have at least one of his characters in it - and often he's in the lead! STAY AWAY FROM STAR CIRCLE.
The rest of the cast is pretty great - Aiza Seguerra as Gary Coleman was brilliant casting, and everyone else was solid.
I didn't expect to relate to this musical as much as me and my friends did, but what do you know? I went in expecting a few laughs, but damn, from the animated singing opening, with the protagonist 22 and aimless (just like me, without the aimless part) to the dating follies and the career misadventures... I had to keep stopping myself from doing what I kept scolding AD and Vilma from - deconstructing the play while we were watching it. :P
Anyway, Avenue Q's Repeat Performance will only be until Dec. 23 at the RCBC Plaza. Go watch it now!
EDIT because I can't believe I forgot this, but this needs to be emphasized: Holy shit, AD, how the hell did you get us front row seats? How many people did you blow to get those tickets? Fuck, ang galing talaga - I've never been so close to the stage at a non-school related performance!
EDIT 2: Thanks to Peppy for pointing this out. :P It's Lucy T. Slut, not Suzy. :D
