Read or Die Convention 2007

Feb 08, 2007 10:42

First off, congratulations to Team Read or Die - Tin (team7), Krimi (kitsune_jade, Embai (embai), and Rotch (magnetic_rose). I had so much fun at the con, and I look forward to an even bigger and funner event next year!

Secondly, one of my best pictures from the RoDCon 2007 - National Artist for Writing F. Sionil Jose being arrested flanked by Storm Troopers!

To view the rest of my photos, drop by my Multiply Album to see them.

Thirdly - I don't even want to start accounting exactly how much I spent this past weekend on books and comics. I was able to resist buying a secondhand copy of "Absolute Watchmen" for P 3,000.00, but I swear it kept mocking me from my seat at the New Worlds Alliance booth.

To reward myself for resisting the lures of hard bound Alan Moore classic comic goodness (fans self at the thought), I instead spent exactly P 4,000.00 on books instead. *slams forehead on desk*

But it was all worth it, or so I try to tell myself.

What I bought during Read or Die 2007 (with pictures!)

"Anansi Boys" by Neil Gaiman, paperback, 2nd hand, almost brand-new, for P 250.00

Astonishing X-men vol. 1 TPB "Gifted", written by Joss Whedon and illustrated by John Cassaday, for P 800.00

Astonishing X-men vol. 3 TPB "Torn", written by Joss Whedon and illustrated by John Cassaday, for P 800.00

(They also had AX-men vol. 2 TPB, "Dangerous" for sale, but that one sucked so I didn't buy it. It was nowhere as bad as "Infinite Crisis" or "Civil War", but I just don't want to encourage bad writing, gets?)

"Thud" by Terry Pratchett, hardbound, 2nd hand, almost brand new, for P 900.00

"World War Z" by Max Brooks, hardbound, brand new, for P 1,250.00

Total amount spent on readables: P 4,000.00. I spent P 1k more than the price of Absolute Watchmen, but I think I have more than 3 times in hours worth of reading material here. :P

Had fun. Met a lot of old friends. Met a lot of new friends. Introduced myself to A LOT OF HARDCORE HOTTIES WHO LIKE BOOKS ENOUGH TO GO TO AN EVENT SOLELY DEVOTED TO BOOKS, AND ARE THUS EVEN MORE SEX-WORTHY THAN THE AVERAGE HARDCORE HOTTIE. Gods, I sure hope I run into at least one of them soon, because I can't wait for 1 year before meeting some of them again. *sigh* You are reading the LJ of a dude stupid enough to meet so many smart babes with hardbound books in their bosoms, and forgot to give out his cellphone number or email address to any of them. *headdesks again*

But going back, did everybody I know go to Read or Die this weekend, or was planning to? I ran into a lot of folks there, from every circle of contacts I've formed. Except relatives, of course, since none of my relatives on either side care about reading. Or dying. :P

Also, I was introduced by Macy (genki_geek) and Aids (stompboxer) to the wonderfulness that is Heroes, and am now a convert. ARGH. Must FINISH DOWNLOADING EPISODES. Or, alternately, can anybody lend them to me??

I took down a lot of notes on what to do better for our next event, since for us NWA people this was basically a dry run for the next Philippine Sci-Fi and Fantasy Convention. First thing on my list of things to remember for the next con: NEVER RUN OUT OF COFFEE. And have food nearby that doesn't take more than 15 minutes to get to. (A lot of people didn't go back after eating lunch/merienda/dinner/whatever).

And also, Photobucket just died on me. Curses.
