I am starting to come to terms that I might be a liberal.

I have been trying to get a Manifesto put together. It seems that I take ideas from the Libertarians, Democrats, and even the original conservative Republicans.

Here are some political thoughts running around my head. I am trying to think in specific solutions so that those who would be interested in me running for office would know where I stand. I know this isn't the successful way to get elected, but I hate the way we are now. Noone stands for anything, and the public complains about it. Okay. Let's try this from a different direction then.

Radical - changing things from the root.

Where to start?

Sustainability. Create fully realized costs on products. What happens when you are done with that battery, or computer?  Who should be safely responsible for it's truly safe disposal?

City wide - No tax breaks for large corporations that do not redistribute profits to the city (Like in the form of better paying jobs.). That would help take care of Best Buy, Lowes, and Walmart coming in and getting better deals than small business.

Energy solutions - Not only conservation, but the time is right for decentralizing power plants. Wind, Solar, Fuel cels. All can be done from each home. We wouldn’t have to build 18 coal plants. How about biodiesel for cars? Turn VWs with 44 MPG to grease cars. The car companies could get behind this though it would mean retooling. There is a good reason for a tax break….

Military. We need to do a full account of what we have done wrong, and what we have done right. This might need to go back 100 years. Philipines, Vietnam, Middle East, South America. We are supposed to be the good guys. We have a higher standard to be accountable for. A country, person, business cannot fix what it doesn’t own up to.

I know there is a cynical answer in “Good luck, dude. Noone is going let you do this!”

It has to start somewhere.

Please comment if you have an alternative solution.
