My thoughts about the gay marraige ban in Texas

I posted this as a response to bitpig 's journal, but I thought I would share here as well.

A few things that bother me about prop 2.
I still believe that what happens between two consenting adults is their own business, not mine. Can we REALLY be the judges on what love is?
I will always vote no on anything that takes away civil liberties.

Now that it is passed, I have a few more thoughts.
1. Since the state is now "defending" marriage, there should be penalties for infidelity.
2. The officiator that performs the wedding ceremony should be held responsible for the failure of the marriage.
3. Divorce should be a lot more difficult. Penalties should be assessed, and the moneys earned from that should go into public education.
4. Public Schools should now have relationship education courses.
5. The scores from those courses reflect whether you can get married or not.
6. Parent that have children out of wedlock should be fined.

As you can tell, I think that if we are going to impinge on other people's rights, everyone's rights should take a hit as well.

rights, politics
