Hello! Welcome to the second round of the Book Game. In case you're new to the game, or just need a reminder, our glorious founder
braisedbywolves posted them
here. I'll be running this one, which will, like its predecessor, run for five rounds. Luckily for the game, but unluckily for me, my job involves me being sent all sorts of dreadful books, which I can guarantee none of you will have read or indeed ever, ever want to read, so at least one of my choices will come from this cache of crapness. First up is a, shall we say, slightly soppy tome set in wartime Yorkshire entitled Turn Left at the Daffodils by Rosie M Banks Elizabeth Elgin. Here's the blurb:
Three Women find friendship and courage as the Second World War rages. Carrie Tiptree thought her life was mapped out - marriage to her fiance Jeffrey followed by the family she craves. But as war escalates, she defies everyone and joins the ATS, leaving sleepy Nether Hutton for Southgate Lodge. Miles away, newly orphaned Nan Morrissey can't wait to join the forces where she hopes she will be able to leave her troubled past behind.
Awaiting the two new arrivals is Evie. Under the watchful eye of Sergeant James, the three women help each other through the trials and tribulations of war. Then Nan meets a young airman, and is immediately captivated. But when she learns who he really is she fears that their differences will ruin any chance of happiness. Meanwhile Carrie is having doubts about Jeffrey. Has she chosen to spend the rest of her life with the wrong man?
In a time of tragedy and great uncertainty, can Carrie, Nan and Evie survive not only the war but the call of their hearts?
