Damn, I was sure Dragonlance started in an inn... and who the hell is Flint Fireforge?
So, for Neverwhere, do you want the first line of chapter one, or the first line of the prologue (if there is one)?

Chapter one.

Flint's the dwarf. Well, he wasn't going to be the elf, was he?

Vague memories insisted there were no elves or dwarves in Dragonlance, just hobbits (kemmerings?).

No, there were elves and dwarves. Halflings were replaced by Kender, who's main racial characteristics were annoying-ness* and kleptomania.

*Seriously. They had a 'taunt' ability and everything.

No, there are many elves. Many many elves. Would you like to hear about the different types of elves? Of course not, no-one who is not reading Tolkien gives a shuddering fvck.

The Kender are the most memorable of the races, definitely filling the hobbit role for parties that need trap detection. ("we open the door, throw the hobbit in and watch")

Oh God now you've made me remember this.

in the immortal words of Tolkein's friend Dyson at an Inklings reading of LOTR:

"Oh fuck, not another elf!"
