New game; new thing
To change things up somewhat, I'm going to do plays this time around. I will give you author, title, list of characters, and some sample text. You provide me with the first line (and thec haracter who speaks it), formatted thusly:

I want the first spoken line, otherwise we'll be stuck with stage directions all the way through!
Also, just to note, the game will intermit next week, as I have personal emergencies that I have to be afk for. My apologies.
So, without further ado, the first play is the relatively recent Mutabilitie by Frank McGuinness.
blurb: Set in Ireland in the sixteeth century, Mutabilitie explores the area where myth meets and transforms reality and where the harshness of life is transmuted into hope by the chance meeting of a poet and a playwright.
Dramatis personae: Edmund, an English poet in the service of the English crown

Excerpt: Edmund: William, some nights I think I am our sovereign. Am I going mad? I have stopped writing.
William: You are too much alone in this place.
Edmund. I am not alone in this place. You are here. Why are you here?
William: Gentle shepherd, I have long learned for your poetry. I beat time to its music, I submit myself to its virtue. I haev so deeply aspired to your exalter heights of invention, and in my work--do you know my work?
Edmund: No.
William: I am a playwright. (Silence.) I write plays.
Edmund: I surmised. Why are you here?
William: It is difficult to ask it.
Edmund: Ask it. (Silence.) Ask it.
William: I'd like to leave the theatre and get a job in the civil service.
Edmund: When I was last in London, I understood the theatre was now the civil service.
William: Times have changed. The fashion is now subversive.
