From what I got, I think what the show was going for in regards to Oliver and his embracing of the hero-worship cliche was that he was trying to fill the void left by Chloe with groupie/city love/admiration. That's why he was spouting off about wanting to "give back" to the city and so on. I don't think Oliver ever *really* thought he was worthy of the worship or mistook it for something authentic/real, but it was a big enough distraction from his heartache, from just "existing". But by the end of the ep, with Tess' help and Isis' insight about his "vacant soul", ("You try to fill it, but the harder you try the emptier it becomes"), Oliver was able to admit to himself that that was what he was doing and that he was feeling really lost without Chloe.
As for Tess being a fill-in Watchtower: I don't love it, but given that they made such a point of having Oliver object initially, both on the grounds that Tess is not sufficiently trustworthy and on the grounds that no one can do what Chloe does and no one can replace her--I am prepared to deal with it. From a practical standpoint, CF is a series regular and they have to both give her more to do and integrate her storyline with the other leads, and have someone do all the exposition that AM usually does. So...okay. It also helps that Tess frankly seems to be a Chlollie fan herself, being willing to listen Ollie talk about Chloe and even bring her up in conversation, accepting and supporting the idea that Chloe and Oliver truly love one another.
Call me crazy, but in the clip you included Oliver just seems, I don't know, manic. and when he says, "My new favorite cereal." His eyes are saying seriously? The Green Arrow girls and the exhibition discussed in the beginning were worrisome, but his speech in the end about trying to fill a void balanced it all out. Hopefully that will be the end of that.
I missed Hawkman too -- but I think he's only going to be in one more episode, and I'd rather that be later in the season and have a lot to do with Oliver (and Chloe) and less to do with Lois and Clark.
I do love Tess and loved how she told Oliver that he was being a charactertercher of himself and not being the hero that Chloe fell in love with. She is such a Chlollie shipper lol
( ... )
Did anyone else find the part when Tess laughed at Cat to be priceless? Tess is a very serious character and I don't think I've seen he crack a real smile too often...so seeing her laugh was kinda awesome! Also have to say that her laughing at Cat made me feel a little better since that girl just annoys me to no end!
Clark and Lois both coming clean was sweet and although I used to ship Chlark i have to say it's great to see those two together. Of course I doesn't mean I'm still not pissed that Clark doesn't give a shit what happened to Chloe or that Lois hasn't even really mentioned her.
Great review! I agree with all your points (including *gulp* liking Cat) 100%!
I am so with you there with the eye twitching. I think Tess is fantastic- I absolutely like her, but I feel very protective of Watchtower, to me it still belongs to Chloe. And since when is Tess some braniac (no pun intended) with computers? Yeah she's good and did get through the security once, but Chloe's system is highly sophisticated and I just think the only person who should be behind the keyboard is Chloe. And if anyone could match and probably outwit Chloe's cpu mind is a one Barbara Gordon. Since when is everyone a freakin' hacker? Gawd.
