Kvothe hasn't been very relaxed lately, what with the mysterious figures in the corners of his vision and the sounds he can't explain, but he's trying to keep on as normally as he can. That of course, means that he can often be found in the library. As he moves through the stacks he abruptly starts and looks around. Seeing nobody he starts

Well, here's a voice that is real, and a very twitchy Bast, since a certain cloud of quiet footsteps have taken to following him and echoing his every sound.

"Kvothe?"

He almost fully surpresses another startled twitch and focuses, it takes him longer than he thinks it should to deliberately calm his breathing and slow his heart rate. This voice though is very welcome, and though he summons up a thin smile and he turns toward where Bast's call came from he can't quite hide the fact that he'd been pretty well spooked. "Here, Bast."

He heads in his Reshi's direction and stops abruptly upon seeing his face, only to continue forward more quickly. "Reshi? What happened?"

He tries to take a deep, calming breath without Bast taking much note of it. "It's nothing," he lies, and not entirely well either which is as unusual as the rest. "I'm fine, Bast."

Bast is definitely taking note of it, silly Kvothe. Bast is definitely taking note of everything. "Don't be ridiculous, did they start bothering you too?"

"...I suppose." He tries to shrug it off as unimportant but we doubt that Bast would buy any of it. "I just thought I heard something. That's all."

Nope, he doesn't, and reaching Kvothe he's going to stop and reach to catch his shoulder. "What did you hear?"

"I thought someone said my name, that's all." He puts a hand over Bast's. "I'm fine, Bast. Really."

He considers Kvothe's face, trying to think of who would have this reaction. "...someone?" Carefully.

He nods. "Yes. I thought I heard someone call me a few moments before you did, but I must have been mistaken." Because having actually heard it just isn't possible. He keeps telling himself.

"Who?"

[the_bloodless]

His jaw sets stubbornly for just a moment before he relents, he knows how stubborn Bast will be about this and unusually he's not up to pushing back. "Denna."

[thetelltaleeyes]

..."Oh."

Well, that's not good.

"It was probably just my imagination. Don't worry about it." He's trying to convince himself of that, it's not working very well.

"Probably." --there's a little nagging part of him that wants to say that maybe she is actually here, he got here after all - but that's different, for one thing, and also he doesn't really - want her here. :\

It would compicate things just a little. Kvothe just nods. The thought may have crossed his mind but it didn't sound quite right, and it had sounded close enough that he thinks he'd have seen her if she really was.
