Normally, Kon liked the winter. It provided a much needed break from the fun in the sun and, by the time it was over, he was ready for it to be bright and warm again. This time, though, he absolutely hated it. It was cold and he was wearing the most godawful clothes he could imagine. They clung in awkward places and they itched and he didn't ( Read more... )

Let's go with mistletoe? prettywithawill December 18 2011, 22:00:16 UTC
Valkyrie had rather enjoyed the clothes that the clothing box had given her so far. Today she was dressed in one of her favorite outfits. Yes, it took a long time to get on, but she felt that it was rather worth it. She hoped that the box would offer up something equally awesome today.

When she got there, she was rather unsurprised to find a ridiculously good looking guy with his shirt off. Apparently not even the cold weather could keep the shirts on the guys on Tabula Rasa.

"Oh just pick something," she said, stepping up next to him at the box. "Nothing you pull out of there will require you to lace something so tight you can't breath OR be called a bustle. Here, look-"

Reaching into the box, she pulled out a jacket that looked like it might fit him.

"This would look good on you."

Kon stared when he saw the woman. He didn't know her - not terribly surprising given the amount of people on the island - but more, it's her outfit. It's got all the trademarks of the era, but it looks awesome. The jacket looked equally awesome, though he had to narrow his eyes a little when he saw what looked suspiciously like the S symbol. Was the clothes box or trunk or whatever it had turned into mocking him?

The answer was probably 'yes'.

"Thanks," he said gratefully. "Now if you can do the same with a shirt that doesn't strangle me and pants that don't itch, I think I might have to propose."

Valkyrie dug through the box a bit more, hoping to find something the guy liked. Not that he couldn't pull off the shirtless look, because... he pulled it off very, very well. But it was cold out and he just really did look ridiculous there standing half naked.

"I take it nothing with ruffles or puffy sleeves?" she asked, tossing aside a shirt that was far too poofy. "Here, pick."

She held up two shirts. one red with a vest and the other without a vest but fancier.

Truthfully, he didn't want either, but at least the one with the vest had a neck he could open up to keep himself from choking. "I'll take the one with the vest, thanks." It occurred to him in a flash of realization that he didn't even know the woman's name and here she was dressing him. "You have okay taste. Especially with the immediate rejection of the ruffled and poofs. I don't suppose I have a lot of choice. No jeans or swimming trunks for me."

He could not wait to get back in the water.

"Mistletoe," Cass warned from the shadows, moment too late as he stepped under it. Cass had been watching him for a while, lurking in the shadows as he undressed. Sliding from her seat, Cass emerged from the dark and pointed up at the mistletoe. A hint of a smile pulled at the corner of her lips as she stayed out of reach sipping at the cold tea before placing it beside her. "Hnnn, you shouldn't wear them."

"Wha--oh, crap." Kon looked up, but it was too late. He remembered very vividly the last time he'd been here. Well, not here here, but in this position. He'd had to kiss Wallace's roommate. He'd been pretty sure he'd never be able to stop blushing after that. He glared at Cass, though there wasn't really any strength behind it. "You could have warned me sooner."

He'd lost complete control of the conversation and he wasn't even sure what her last comment was about. "Shouldn't wear what?"

"Then you wouldn't learn," Cass replied, all Bruce, looking at Kon as she picked through the shirts that he had picked up. Cassandra turned a few over in her hand, looking at the high collars and tight sleeves before discarding them. Looking up at him, a twitch of humour tugged at her lips as she replied. "Clothes."

Cass moved around him, darting out of his reach as she went to the box to select clothes that would fit him and would allow him to move. As for Cass, her own clothes were fitted tight to her body and masculine, she scandalised the ghostly citizens as she wandered by. Taking a shirt with the looser collar, Cass moved over to him and let her feet settle into stiff frozen blocks beneath her.

"Arms," Cass ordered, lifting his arm up so he got the idea as she slid the shirt sleeve over his hand. Fingertips and knuckles brushing against his skin as she helped him into the dark shirt.

"Yes, ma'am," Kon answered dryly. He lifted his arms, hesitating when they were halfway up. "Are you sure you want to get this close to me? I mean, I am under the mistletoe. Who knows what would happen if you got too close."

He was very tempted to grab her around the waist and pull her in for the kiss that would set him free. He knew that if she didn't want to be caught, she wouldn't be and there wasn't anything he could do about it. Even if she was moving his hands all across his body.

He flashed her a grin. "You might have to kiss me again."

As nice as the change in weather and location was, there were something things that remained the same. Lex actually liked the fashion that had come with the change, but then he'd grown up in more formal clothes then the average person was used too. Plus, it gave him a chance to get Anatoly in nice clothes on a daily basis. Definitely no down side there.

But the things that remained were things like laundry and, after trying to get the ghost population to do it for him, Lex still had to do it. He bit back a smile as he saw Kon digging through the clothes box. "Having a little trouble?"

"These pants itch and how do you wear ties? This collar is choking my neck." Kon grumbled a little and scratched the side of his leg. Maybe it wasn't so bad as he made it out to be, but he'd be much happier in clothes that were more him and less 'Eighteenth Century gentleman'. "Are you sure they don't have jeans or sweats or something in this era? It wouldn't have been so bad if I'd had all the clothes from before the island went all snowy.

Maybe if he'd had someone make clothes for him instead of getting them from the clothes box.

"Didn't you know they were torture devices specifically created to make sure young men behave?" Lex said in a tone of voice that made it difficult to judge whether he was kidding or not. "And if you wore the equivalent of jeans in this era, you also didn't eat very often." Not to mention Lex didn't want any son of his wandering around in clothes like that.

He set a load to wash and then came back to stand beside the box with Kon. "Come on, there must be something you can wear."

"I hate wool," Kon muttered. "It makes me itch." Whether that was an actual statement of fact or whether it was just psychosomatic grumbling about his lack of powers was anyone's guess. He certainly felt like his pants were itching him. "How about the equivalent of a bathing suit? Got anything like that?" Even he wasn't as stupid as that. He knew he'd freeze if he went outside in anything skimpy enough for trunks.

"It's not going to work, you know." Dairine has been alternating between dressing up--usually to go out, because she learned the hard way that the hansoms don't stop for girls in drag--and wearing boys' getup. It's the latter she has on now, shirt and wool trousers and bracers, though she has got really attached to one pair of boots she's started wearing all the time. She's leaning against the wall now, just watching. Not being helpful.

"I think I'm allergic." He scratched a little and sighed. "I don't know how you stand it. I'd rather be in those skirts you wear sometimes than in the pants I'm wearing now." They were unbearable. The shirts, except for the high neck, were bearable. At least he could unbutton those enough when he wasn't supposed to be strictly correct. But the pants?

If Dairine hadn't shown up, he almost would have considered shucking those.

The corner of Dairine's mouth twitches, just the teensiest tiniest bit. "So wear skirts," she says, because the image of Kon in a long ruffly dress is really too funny not to suggest. "Nothing's stopping you."

"Oh, ha ha. I'm sure that won't get noticed." He pointed a finger at her. "You'd better not get any ideas, missy. I can already see you picturing it." He patted his chest. "I don't have the size for a really good dress."

Stephanie's leaning in the doorway watching him root through the box which is less of a box and more of a really nice looking trunk, which just fits neatly in the theme. Her tea dress is blue and too pretty to be hated, even if the high neck and sleeves feel way too constraining. Her voice is wry.

"Oh me, on my, can my Victorian sensibilities take such a display of manly virility? I fear I shall faint, quick, fetch me the appropriate piece of furniture upon which I can swoon."

She smiles and comes in to poke at the pile with her toe. If it weren't all way, way too big she might steal a shirt and vest to add to her growing 'fuck corsets and also skirts' collection.

"Come, let me take you into my manly arms to protect you," Kon retorts. Despite his annoyance at the clothes, his lips curl into a bit of a smile when he sees her. "Am I allowed to say you look amazing or will I be smacked or, worse, given a lecture about the impracticality of those skirts for fighting?" He can only imagine what Tim's response to all this would be. Actually, he thinks he knows. He would probably take it with all the implacability that he takes everything else. Very few things ever manage to ruffle the Robin.

"Want to help me here? I'm trying to find something that doesn't itch when I wear it. I'm not having much luck so far."

She raises an eyebrow but smiles. "I will allow you to say I look amazing, because I sort of do, in a really stiff, prim sort of way." Every day, it's a compromise, because she's not like Cass, part of her likes the skirts and the colors and the really ridiculous outfits, but she can't bear to wear it all the time. Today is a petticoats and skirts sort.

"Can't you find something that's...silk or something soft?" Steph walks toward the box and tugs some overcoats aside. "I mean, anything not wool, right?"

"It's the pants that are the real problem," Kon answers. "The shirts are fine enough except for the collars. I keep being tempted to go at them with a pair of scissors and just chop the collars off." He looked over his shoulder at her. "Hey, I, uh, heard about our Batly-type friend showing up. You okay?" As long as he stayed as far away as he could from Batman, he was fine with it. But the moment he decided to scowl and start calling him the clone...
