It was because of said serial killer that Cassie had started doing a bit of patrolling. It probably wasn't necessary with the growing batch of obsessive compulsive Bats but it made her feel better to catch herself every once in a while.
So when she saw a blond girl alone in an alley, she had to go investigate to make sure she was okay. She was wearing the Steampunk version of her uniform, complete with a long leather coat that flared dramatically as she dropped down from one of the buildings. Once she was on ground, she realized she recognized the girl. "Kate? Are you okay?"
Of course, the person who was coming to her rescue had to be Sam's girlfriend. Of course.
Not that Kate couldn't admit that she was totally cute, but it was a little awkward to officially introduce yourself to a friend's significant other and then ask for a smooch. Awkward or not, that seemed to be what she was going to have to do and Kate turned with a sigh and a smile.
"Hey," she said. "Cassie, right? I'm totally stuck under this friggin' mistletoe."
It was a little awkward but at least they knew of each other. It could have been worse, they could have found out after the fact. And it wasn't like she could leave her there, especially since she was Sam's friend.
And oh was Sam going to hear about this later. Cassie knew he was going to wish he was here.
"Yeah, that's me. And do you want a hand? I mean, I can totally get someone of the more male variety but I'd rather not leave you alone." If Kate hadn't heard, Cassie wasn't so sure she wanted to worry her.
"Yeah, creepy serial killers skulking around and whatever," Kate agreed with a roll of her eyes. At this point, she was sure everyone knew, mostly because she'd been telling practically everyone she saw. It was partly about spreading the gossip, because nothing that interesting ever happened here, but partly about making sure her ass was covered, too.
"Sam's gonna either think this is awesome or have a fit," she said with a laugh, then shrugged. "If you could help me out, that'd be awesome."
"Oh good. I didn't want to say anything and scare you if you didn't know but that's why I was patrolling in the first place. As if Luthor wasn't bad enough, now we have serial killers too." Really, it just figured. It really didn't help in Cassie's mind that they were both bald either. Did lack of hair just make you evil or something?
"Don't think I'm not going to tell him about this. It's too good not too. He's gonna die just trying to picture it." She had a feeling it would be the former. He was a boy after all and isn't this what boys dreamed about? And as if to answer Kate, Cassie stepped closer, clearly stuck by the mistletoe herself now. "Got no choice now do I?" She said with a small smirk.
"Now we're both totally stuck," Kate agreed with a grin of her own. At the very least, Cassie seemed cool with it and, besides that, she was dating Sam and Kate was pretty sure anyone Sam picked to date would be pretty great. In fact, they probably should have met a lot sooner than this, but there was a part of Kate that was still adjusting to being in a place where everyone was so friendly.
"Okay," she said, then rubbed her hands together. "Let's do this."
In fact, Cassie did feel a little bad that it had taken this long for them to meet, but she was having trouble just keeping up her friends from home with all the time she spent with Sam. But still, she was glad they were finally getting to meet now, no matter how strange the circumstances.
"I'd say pretend I'm Harry, but I'm a little afraid of how that would go." She kidded to keep it light as she leaned in.
"Oh, Christ," Kate said, but she was laughing as she leaned in to meet Cassie halfway. So far, she'd learned that a quick peck on the cheek didn't really work -- at least, it hadn't in the cases she'd seen -- and she didn't want to risk having to kiss someone multiple times, especially someone she really didn't know all that well. So she went for it, pressing her mouth to Cassie's for a moment, her eyes closed before she stepped back again and looked up.
"Well, here goes nothing," she said, then took a step away.
The laughter was what Cassie had been going for to make this a little less weird and even she was giggling as their lips met.
As Kate stepped back, so did Cassie, who beamed when she looked up and saw that the blasted plant was no where to be found. "Excellent! Now..." She looked back to Kate. "I have been patrolling for long enough. Do you have to be anywhere, or do you wanna grab some hot chocolate?" Sure they may have waited a long time to meet but there was no time like the present to get to know each other.
"God, thank you," Kate said, looking for the mistletoe as well. But it was gone, off to torture someone else, she figured, just as long as it never got its stupid leafy hands on her again. Figuratively, of course. Though she couldn't imagine anyone else who wanted to be stuck either.
"Yes, hot chocolate," she agreed, turning back to look at Cassie. She rubbed her hands together to warm them, then started toward the mouth of the alley that led back to the street. "That sounds so freaking perfect right now."
