McCoy's been settling in with the new status quo as best as he can. It's not like he's totally in love with hurtling even further into the past when he's already coping with losing five hundred centuries of gains in medicine and technology, but he's gonna make do. After what happened in the lab, he figures he's got no right in hell to complain ( Read more... )

"Oh, God! Are you alright?"

Florence heard the crash and rushes into the room, heading directly to the man crumpled on the floor. She recognizes him, of course, the Doctor she'd met with the... technical problem. The one from the far, far future instead of the few decades that most of the people seemed to have on her.

She doesn't even notice the mistletoe that's overhead, she's just worried that he's hurt himself.

"No, don't--!" But it's too late. He closes his eyes tightly when she steps inside the damn thing's radius. He shouldn't be too upset, should he? It's his own fault for getting into this mess and thinking chemical warfare would get him out (especially given his recent issues with the stuff), but now he's doomed someone else to this madness. "Mistletoe," he warns, darkly.

"Mistletoe?"

Looking up, Florence sees the little green sprig and laughs. Someone's been decorating for the holiday and she finds it more than a little amusing, not realizing the significance yet.

"Someone has an odd sense of humor, but I'm more worried about you. You have to be seeing stars after a fall like that."

McCoy's gaze rests on her expectantly, waiting for the other shoe to drop. It's soon after she doesn't have a reaction that he thinks that this must be new for her. "You've never been in this position before, have you?" he asks as he sits up and cracks his neck. "Try walking away. Five steps," he suggests.

"Running into someone who's just taken a tumble? It's not an everyday thing, Doctor, but I have seen men fall down before."

Completely confused, Florence stands from her concerned crouch and looks at him like he's lost his mind. But sure enough she takes a few steps away and her body jerks, all forward momentum lost. Her confusion deepens before she realizes what he was trying to tell her.

"You have to be kidding me."

So, he's in pain. He's trapped. He's not having a good day, but he still finds the whole thing amusing enough that he gives her a smile and gestures to the small-sized forcefield that's keeping them in. "Welcome to the island's bag of tricks. You can probably guess what comes next to get out."

Florence looks up at the suddenly sinister garland and groans a little. Oh course, it was mistletoe, you're supposed to kiss the man you're under it with.

"At least you're not Freddie." Or Anatoly. Which upon thinking about it, would be worse.

"That's the first time I've ever heard that line," he points out, but it's wry and not very accusing. "I take it Freddie's bad news, huh?" he says, trying to distract her slightly so that he can wind an arm around her shoulders and pull her in for a quick, brief, chaste kiss on the lips.

"My ex, and I-" She's completely taken by surprise is what she is and she pulls back by instinct, eyes widening. She hasn't kissed anyone since her last kiss with Anatoly, a quick peck as he headed up to the room while she finished arrangements. It had hardly been a kiss and this was less.

"What was that?"

"It's a kiss, what do you want, fireworks, cuz I don't keep those rigged in my pants," he says in disbelief, his eyes wide as anything. He steps out of the goddamn danger zone, pleased that he's able to move wherever he likes without a plant telling him not to. "Sorry I'm not in the habit of sweeping women off their feet these days."

She can't speak for a moment, it isn't usually her experience that men would kiss her and then immediately move away from her. She almost feels... slighted.

"I don't know whether to be insulted by that so-called kiss or call you a gentleman for not taking advantage."

"If you want to find out what a second feels like, stay where you are. I'm not sticking under that mistletoe for a second that I don't need to be," he warns, looking up at the thing like it's bound to eat him alive if he lingers any longer.

Skipping off to the side, Florence quickly removes herself from what she hopes are the limits of the garland's influence. It really won't do to get stuck herself, not with as unsteady as she feels these days, emotionally.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to offend. I just..." Haven't been kissed in months? Not exactly something she felt like sharing with a virtual stranger.

"You didn't," he promises, but there's still a part of him that's edgy as the result of the experience. McCoy doesn't appreciate being held hostage by a plant. Plus, his own idiocy has rendered him a lot more sore than he's been in ages. "Normally, I'd run the regen over me and fix up my woes, but it's currently gone. Think you can escort me to an actual doctor?"

"I think I should." After a fall like that, it was probably a good idea and it was why she'd initially rushed in. He must think she was scatter-brained to have forgotten.

"Do you know who's on duty? Should I go find someone?"

"Anyone's fine," McCoy says with a wave of his hand, given that they're all his coworkers and he trusts 'em all. Sure, the ones in training might need a little more guiding, but they're all fairly steady when it comes to a good fix. "Hell, you can probably manage. I think rest and ice is about the most anyone can do for me now."
