Chase had heard about the last few of these that he'd missed by being, probably, drunk on his own or trying to appear studious in front of either Tony or Peter ( ... )

This wasn't a set of people that Lucy was all that familiar with. Thalia was here, and a couple others, but for the most part, despite her best efforts to relax for a while (that she had to admit were actually working), she still wasn't entirely sure she fit here. Another familiar face among the crowd was, then, entirely welcome, and she smiled broadly as she headed to Chase's side, glass in hand. Of all the people that had left, he was one of the few who'd remained, and although she wasn't really letting herself think about that now, the fact remained that she was never less grateful for his presence because of it ( ... )

Chase grinned at Lucy, the warm, familiar smile of someone one step closer than a friend, and nodded. He pulled another long drag from the joint, then scooped Lucy up in a messy, teasing hug and shotgunned her, still smiling against her mouth as he did.

It was all Lucy could do not to laugh at the suddenness of it, the simple fact that she had to inhale keeping her from it even as she slid an arm around Chase in turn. Somewhere, it occurred to her that she was probably violating some obvious rule of engagement or something, but for the moment, that didn't matter to her. They were just two people sharing a hit from a joint, the familiar burn pleasant before she exhaled towards the ceiling, then grinned at him. "Nice to see you, too."

"How are ya, gorgeous?" Chase asked, slinging a companionable arm around Lucy's lower back. There was almost no one left on the island Chase felt fully at ease around. Lucy was one of them.

The opium helped, but also, the above was true.

"I'm good," Lucy replied, grinning up at him, all fond. Usually, the very fact that that was true would have been a warning sign of sorts - nothing very good ever lasted for long, not around here - but for now, she wasn't letting herself think about that, something that was becoming increasingly easier, between the drinks and Chase's arm around her. "Figured I could use a break from playing grown-up for a night. How about you?"

"Yeah, I'm down for some Peter Pan syndrome. Where's your man at? I figure he's gotta be digging the whole Victorian vibe." It was meant to be a dig, the guy always just seemed a little...

Well, like high stiff collars and things that got tightly laced wouldn't be at odds with his personality.

"Didn't feel like cutting loose with a bunch of teenagers? P.S. I feel sooo oooold," he groaned, dropping his forehead to her shoulder.

"God, he wouldn't be caught dead at something like this," Lucy laughed, her own head tipping back, smile brighter than it probably ought to have been. She should have felt the same way, in fact, but the point was that she didn't and she wasn't sure she wanted to. Of course Chase understood that, though, she thought; it only made sense that he would. "I guess he's at his house, I don't know. And don't feel old, if you feel old, I have to feel old, and I'm trying not to feel old."

"Okay, we're not old," Chase said agreeably.

"Which means we're gonna dance, right?"

"Oh, absolutely," Lucy replied with a short nod, as if that much ought to have been obvious. Granted, she hadn't thought much about dancing before coming here, but now, it was practically a foregone conclusion. At least, after his having mentioned it, it seemed that way. "I mean, how could I say no to that?"
