Prior always faced the change in weather with dread. One of the blessings of the island was that the climate was overall good for his immune system. He'd had bronchitis on the island once, and pneumonia another time, both during that small window of winter.

And as soon as he saw the real change that the island had undergone - the time period in ( Read more... )

Prior was not the only one to dread the change in climate every December. While it made Anatoly extremely happy, Lex didn't look forward to bundling up especially where his head was concerned. But it was better then catching pneumonia again, even if the pneumonia had eventually caught him a Russian.

Though he would agree on the clothes. There was something fun to dressing from a different time period, especially one as dashing as this one.

Lex had been returning home after running an errand when he first saw the escaping top hat. He bent down to pick it up and moved to politely return it when he Prior clearly in distress. "Prior...are you alright? What's wrong?"

Prior managed to pull himself together and straightened up. He'd had his sleeve in front of his mouth as he coughed, and he was relieved when he pulled it away and there wasn't any blood on it.

"I'm okay," he said. "Hey, Lex. I just... want to sit for a minute?" They were conveniently standing in front of a church.

"Of course." Lex offered first the hat back and then his arm of Prior so choose to use it.

"I'll try not to burst into flames as we go through the door but I warn you, as a Luthor, it is a possibility." He joked darkly in an attempt to pull focus from Prior's health, at least for the moment.

Prior took Lex's arm and said, "Nah, it's probably me who should be worried, I'm not really on the good side of the angels."

As soon as they were inside, he dropped from Lex's arm into the nearest pew, in the back.

"Who is?" Lex said with probably a wider smile then was really necessary given the sentiment.

Once Prior was sitting, Lex looked around and met the eye of anyone who would challenge them, making it more then clear that they were not to be disturbed with a practiced Luthor look. "Can I get you anything?"

"No, thanks... I'm okay." Prior offered him a smile. "This is nothing, really."

"Pardon me for saying, but it certainly doesn't sound like nothing." Lex spoke with pure friendly concern as he sat down on the pew in front of Prior so he could look back at him. "Perhaps just a little time indoors will help."

"It's the weather," Prior admitted glumly. "Sometimes I get sick. So yeah, I could stay indoors, but have you seen this place?"

Lex chuckled. "I know what you mean. Usually I dread the change in December but this is just fascinating. I've seen most of London but not like this."

"I'd never been to Europe," Prior admitted. "I'd always wanted to... Paris, especially. I studied French in school, had this big dream of... I don't know, being some Bohemian girl in a cafe somewhere."

"Paris is beautiful. You would have loved it. It's definitely a much more relaxed atmosphere then most places in the states." Or at least what Lex had been able to see. He didn't know if it was his Luthor upbringing or just him, but he never could understand the idea of anything to do with bohemians. But he could easily see the Prior would have fit right in.

"I'll bet you traveled a lot," Prior said. "Me, I barely left New York, but if you're going to be somewhere, then that's a nice place to be. And the Walters, we're an old family. Pilgrims and shit."

"I had too. Good ole Dad wanted to be sure I could handle any situation including business in foreign countries. It was his version of being cultured. Shame I never really got to play in any of the places I went." Lex said by way of explanation. One of his father's odd lessons. "I do like New York. Very metropolitan. But I'm sure I never saw the real New York. You'll have to tell me about it sometime, being an old family and all."
