For anyone who knew Ron, finding him at one of the tables in the rec room, surrounded by books and papers might have convinced them that the island was messing around with people's minds again. At his best, he'd always procrastinated until the night before assignments were due to write them, and getting him to do any studying when he didn't have to ( Read more... )

Coming up behind Ron, Bill leaned over to peer at the drawing, tilting his head this way and that as though trying to get a better angle at it. "Is that a...bear with wings?" he asked, leaning in a bit further to try and get a closer look.

Ron looked up at Bill and frowned, then immediately scribbled out his drawing.

"It was meant to be a hippogriff," he said, but clearly he'd gotten it wrong. But he didn't really think Bill'd be able to do better.

"Oh, right, yeah, now that you've said that it...no, still don't see it, sorry," Bill said, moving to sit next to his brother. "But hey, what do I know, I'm pants at drawing. All I can manage are hieroglyphics. Maybe if you had a picture of one to work from?"

"Ha, ha, you're hilarious," Ron replied dryly, looking over at Bill, "I should really just go and use Buckbeak to draw from, I reckon. That'd probably be easier."

Though, he hasn't even talked to Harry about mascots yet, so they might not even use a hippogriff at all.

Bill nodded at that. "Oh, yeah, you might do, I bet you could get a good likeness that way," he agreed, trying to be encouraging. "What's this for, anyway?"

"Mascot for a Quidditch team," Ron replied, "You can't really have a proper team without one."

He'd mentioned the brooms to Bill- he'd mentioned tem to anyone he knew who'd listen, really- but the idea of teams and maybe a league was something altogether new.

"That's a good idea," Bill replied. "If we're going to play proper Quidditch there's got to be mascots. Something to put on the uniforms, a team name to root for, all that." He wondered how much interest there was going to be in Quidditch - if they got enough for a few teams, that'd be even better.

Ron knew that they were going to have to explain to people just what Quidditch was- as mental as the idea of people not knowing it still was to Ron- but possibly his worst nightmare was no one being interested in it at all.

"Exactly," Ron replied, "Otherwise, all you've got is the blue team and the read team or whatever."

"And that definitely won't do," Bill agreed. "What other ideas have you got for mascots?"

"I dunno," Ron said with a shrug, "Maybe the Ironbellies or something." Except, those were sort of slower dragons, and no one early wanted to be known as being slower than other Quidditch teams. Maybe if they let Malfoy play, that could be his team.
