For anyone who knew Ron, finding him at one of the tables in the rec room, surrounded by books and papers might have convinced them that the island was messing around with people's minds again. At his best, he'd always procrastinated until the night before assignments were due to write them, and getting him to do any studying when he didn't have to ( Read more... )

Rogue couldn't help glancing over the red headed boy's shoulder as she passed behind him. He was taking up a lot of space, and was so intent on what he was doing, she found herself curious.

"Cute bear."

Ron looked up at the woman and frowned. "It's not a bear," he insisted, before looking back down at his drawing and squinting at it.

"It does sort of look like a bear, doesn't it?"

Ron swore and crumbled the paper into a ball, tossing it off to the side somewhere.

"It wasn't bad, sugar," Rogue protested, walking around to lean on the table, crossing her legs at the knee, and reclining back a little on locked arms.

"Whatcha workin' on, if it ain't too nosy o'me t'ask."

"It was supposed to be a hippogriff," Ron said, even though he was pretty sure she wouldn't know what one was. She probably didn't know what Quidditch was either, but they'd have to tell people if they expected to get enough people together for a match.

"It's gonna be a mascot for a Quidditch team, hopefully." Though, he and Harry hadn't talked much about team names or mascots yet.

"Quidditch," Rogue repeated, blinking.

"Doesn't that game require flyin' brooms?" she asked, nose crinkling up a little in confusion.

"You know what it is?" Ron asked, eyes opening a bit wider with surprise. He'd been convinced that they were going to have to explain the game to nearly everyone.

This was absolutely brilliant.

"Have you played before?"

Rogue realized that the kid she was talking to was a dead ringer for the little red headed boy in the Harry Potter movies, even though last she'd seen he'd been much, much smaller. She silently thanked her years of being on the island for producing an extensive mental lexicon to cross reference.

"No, sugar, we didn't have it where I come from, though some of us could fly. Just heard about it from people over the years." Saw it in a kid's movie, same thing.

"Y'all startin' a league?" she asked, eyes narrowing in interest at the array of pages.

"But- how-?"

For a second, Ron had hoped that maybe she'd been part of one of the North American teams, but at least she knew what it was, even if she'd never played. That was something.

"My friend Harry and I got brooms last year," Ron explained, "They didn't work before, because of the whole 'no magic' thing here, but this guy helped us fix them up with muggle stuff so they actually fly."

It wasn't the same, but it was better than anything else they were going to get on the island.

"This guy," Rogue repeated, pulling out a chair and taking a seat proper.

"This guy wouldn't happen t'be Tony Stark, would it?" She would bet money it would.

"He made somethin' that flies?"

"Yeah, that was his name," Ron replied. Neither he nor Harry had really liked him at first; for someone who'd never made a broom fly before or anything, he'd been kind of rude at first. But now Ron reckoned he could be as rude as he liked, since he'd figured out something that he and Harry hadn't stumbled upon for nearly a year.

"That rat bastard son of a bitch," she murmured to herself, gaze turning thoughtful and directed inward. She shook it off and looked back at Ron, propping her chin on her hand.

"So how many teams you gonna have in this league o'yours, sugar? 'n where're y'all gonna play?"

"Dunno," Ron replied, "About the teams, at least. Though, there's already a Quidditch pitch here. Someone built it ages ago, I think."

It'd probably require some upkeep, since Ron wasn't sure anyone'd played an actual game of Quidditch on it since it'd been built, but he reckoned it'd be well worth it, in the end.
