TR Day Party

Every year, between Guy Fawkes Night and Thanksgiving, there was a holiday that everyone on the island could celebrate despite their cultural background. Tabula Rasa Day might not get the same fanfare as the other two red letter days, but it was well-enjoyed nonetheless because it commemorated the establishment of the community, a new home and a new life for all the island's residents. Even if one yearned for home, which Ianto did not usually do, there was always something about the island community for which one could be thankful.

The organization of the party got easier every year, what with how much practice in party-planning the people involved had. Most of the party spilled outside into that open space in front of and around the Compound, the main building and the Hub serving as bookends, one with food and one with alcohol. The kitchen crew had gone all out as always, the abundance of the island creatively used and deliciously prepared. Fowl and boar and seafood and veggies, cookies and cakes and pies and ice cream. Juice and water and tea were also available, but Ianto made sure to keep the Hub open in case anyone wanted something stronger. The karaoke machine too sat on its stage, ready to go in case anyone got in the mood. Colorful banners streamed from one building to another, creating a patchwork of color through which light streamed and, later in the evening, through which starlight peeked as the lights gave everything a warm glow.
