Jon tried to spend most of his time out of doors because the inside of the Compound was stifling, in a way, and while he'd been at the Wall, he never really liked walls. It was too compact, too closed in, and it made it feel like he couldn't get out. That said, there were things in the Compound that interested him: books, the strange boxes that played images and music. Those things were worth braving it for a little while, at least, and Jon and Ghost were in what was dubbed the rec room, Ghost curled up near a chair and Jon perusing the bookshelves.

He'd never been a very big reader back home, too interested in going out in the yard with Robb or Mikken or Theon Greyjoy. He did know how to read, though, and that was a gift in Westeros, to have one's letters. He pulled a few options off the shelf before touching something else, metal with some kind of long flat filmy pieces inside. Jon had no idea what it was and sat it to the side too, confused.

He heard someone enter and, without turning around, voiced a question.

"Might you be able to tell me what that is?" he said, nodding toward the film reel. "I'm not from a world like the island or the things in the Compound. It's much simpler."

The only stupid question is an unasked one.
