Today, he's Batman.
Rolling his shoulders up, he climbs from the second branch to the third, the leaves rustling as if offended. He's not usually this physical, but he doesn't feel a cough rattling around in his chest (no more than usual), and he feels like he can pretend he has a life to look forward to, today.
He also figures that Batman doesn't spend a lot if his treetop time thinking about how fucking great life is, anyway. So he's good. And if he smokes a lot, he can get that gravelly thing going -- the one that Dean sometimes likes to imitate. The one that sounds like Dean's got a bad tonsil infection.
The most noticeable difference (and his most stark contrast to Batman) is that his hair, once long and tangled and faded, was now a platinum blond. This was the look Roger had sported for some time, but due to lack of funds and lack of will to live, things have changed. Now.... Well, he doesn't know why he chose now, but it was as good enough a time as any. And it's not noticeable when he's straddling a third-tier branch.
There's more outraged rustling, a few of the clusters of leaves going so far as to sever their ties from the bunch completely, and then Roger is settled. It's fucking weird that there's no hair in his face and that what he can see looks like a tortilla chip, but the familiarity of the cigarette that dangles from his lips as he searches his pockets for a lighter is home enough to surround him.
Now he's just a pair of boots dangling in opposing figure-8's with a thin curl of smoke parting through the leaves. Now he is (less stealthy) Batman.
