Though she could hardly count herself among the hardier island citizens, Olivia had been around long enough to know not to trust anything that popped up over night, especially when it all seemed to do nothing but want to entertain the island ( Read more... )

Erica was having a blast. She was fairly certain that she was going to regret the sheer amount of process sugar that was coursing through her veins come the morning There'd also probably be a little regret about her chosen combination of fried foods and rides that made the pit of her stomach drop. But for now she was fine.

Laughing and smile and holding cotton in her hand as she watched the game. "Nice one," she complemented, meaning it. It was a carnival game and while she typically put guns in a 'use only if necessary' category that didn't mean that she couldn't give praise. "When I tried it, I think I wound up embarrassing everyone around me."

Olivia looked up with a start, so caught up in her own thoughts that she'd forgotten to expect spectators of some sort. She covered up her discomfort with a smile, and gave the girl a shrug. "The embarrassment always happens at first, it's kind of unavoidable."

"Ah yeah, but I don't think that makes it any less embarrassing. It just means you're part of a pretty large club." Erica joked more than willing to accept that a normal person couldn't be good at everything and if she lived without mastering some carnival games it would probably be alright. "But you're pretty good. Do you secretly practice or something?"

"I'm in the FBI," she answered, which, as far as Olivia was concerned, was explanation enough. She'd hardly ever received acknowledgement for something she considered a necessary part of her job, which made the memories from Her all that more jarring.

"Are you?"

That was sort of straightforward answer that Erica could appreciate. It was better than coming up with some sort of bullshit excuse. Plus it made the show, carnival setting aside, all the more impressive. "That's cool. I was thinking about the FBI, before here. Not seriously, but it crossed my mind."

Olivia smiled politely, one she wore for anyone who described joining the FBI as a fleeting thought. For her, and most of the other agents she knew, it was as close to a calling as one could get; either one knew they needed to be in law enforcement of some kind, or they didn't. Everyone else eventually washed out.

"I like to think it's cool. Not much call for it here, though."
