Though she could hardly count herself among the hardier island citizens, Olivia had been around long enough to know not to trust anything that popped up over night, especially when it all seemed to do nothing but want to entertain the island ( Read more... )

The amusement park sounded like the best way for her to move everything that had happened since everyone had gotten those powers, the ones that had disappeared as suddenly as they'd arrived. She wasn't surprised by the fact that it had taken her a while to reconcile the way that her past - and her future, more accurately - were finding a means through the dimensions, or however it was people arrived here, to catch up with her. But she knew she needed Castle to get through it, and pushing him away hadn't solved anything. They'd come here together tonight as a way of putting their argument behind them, and so far, it seemed to be working ( ... )

"If you find a way, let me know," Olivia said, happy to look away from the paper targets and every false memory she wanted to bury and never think of again. "It'd be nice to keep from getting rusty without wasting what precious little ammunition I have."

Beckett frowned in thought, her lips quirking slightly as she considered that downside. "I hadn't thought of that," she admitted. Luckily, she hadn't had to use her gun so far, whether it had been down in Rapture or otherwise, but she only had the few bullets in her clip, and she wasn't about to waste them.

"Maybe we can snag a couple of these, use them instead," she suggested, picking up one of the plastic guns.

Olivia gave Kate a sly smile, and she picked up a gun as well, giving it some thought. "It's not considered theft if there technically isn't an owner, is it?"

Taking some time to consider the law, Beckett could only nod in agreement, her smile only growing as she turned the gun over in her hand.

"And we'd really only be using them for recreational purposes, which is what they were originally intended for," she pointed out.

"Exactly." While it was fun to debate and consider, Olivia knew she could never take something that wasn't hers, or trust in something so magical and inexplicable as a shooting range that popped up along with an entire carnival overnight. "But knowing this place, it probably won't stick around for long."

"We probably can't count on that," Beckett agreed, her lips quirking in a frown of thought.

"And given that there's no real reason for us to use the real thing here, it seems somewhat pointless. I don't know, I still miss something about target practice," she admitted, shrugging slowly.

"I've thought about taking up archery," Olivia admitted, and while she was still see-sawing on the idea, part of her knew she would eventually take it up once the time was right. "Just need the right teacher."

"They have a class for it," Beckett replied, setting the plastic gun back down.

"I'm not sure if it's archery, firearms or both, but there's definitely someone who trains in all of them. Might be worth looking into if you're worried about losing your edge."
