Kate's busy pouring mojitos when Magnus puts her back to her and asks for help with her sunscreen. It's good she is, the mojitos, otherwise she might be choking on her tongue. Yeah, she's gotten used to Magnus being warmer, happy, open, even flirting. But the voluntary touching is still weird. "Yeah, sure. Turn around?"
It's not that Kate has an issue with it. If Magnus weren't with Will, she'd probably be trying to tap that. With or without the other good doctor. Or Declan. That would be hot -- and Kate really needs to stop thinking about Declan while she's pouring warm sunscreen on her hands and smoothing it into Magnus's shoulders. It's going nowhere but way too sensual, fast.
Helen doesn't actually sun very often because she's fair and, given enough exposure, she also turns bright red and freckles and nobody really wants to see that. She's also a little more concerned about her skin these days because she's very much a mortal woman and highly susceptible to skin cancer. She doesn't want to know what will happen if she has to suddenly deal with a cancer diagnosis on the island.
"Mm, thank you," she says, smile on her face and in her voice as Kate rubs her shoulders. It's been a very long while indeed since she was so casual with touch but one of the things the island has done is made her more open to relationships, romantic and otherwise, and more affectionate and open. It's a person she hasn't been in more than a century and Helen likes it, strange though it may be.
Kate has this fleeting urge to do something ridiculous and just hug Magnus. Sometimes it seems like she needs it. But she figures fixing the fastener on her bikini so it lies flat when Kate's done with the sunscreen is intimate enough. It's not like Magnus doesn't know by now if she needs something from Kate, she's here.
She hands her back the sunscreen and snatches up the bag Magnus has with her instead, to paw nosily through it. "I'm not going to find work in here, am I? I better not," she teases, while offering her a mojito with her free hand.
"No. There is a romance novel about Navy SEALS and a few old fashion magazines from off the bookshelf," Helen says, reasonably confident that neither could be construed as work. "I'm actually, honestly going to relax today and I'm so glad I can say that and mean it for once. I think Will once told me there's no real point in being over a hundred if I'm not actually going to live so today, I'm living."
She eyes Kate for a moment. "You need sun cream too, Kate. Want me to put it on for you?"
Kate shrugs. She's never worn sunscreen before, but she can count the number of times she's laid out at a beach, too. If the doc says she needs sunscreen, she's not really going to argue. Instead, she slides off the gold micromesh top (it was some hideous cover of a thing but Kate picked out the seams, cut and restitched it; now it looks great over a dark wine string bikini and dark floral sarong) and turns her back to Magnus.
"You mean a fantasy about Navy SEALS, right? I've slept with more than a few of them. They don't do romance." Unless they're Steve with Danny. And she's not even sure that's romance, just love. Kate grins at the cover as she picks up the book. "Not bad on the art, though." She pauses for impact, cocks her head and then shakes it. "Romances, Magnus, really?"
Helen flushes a little and is suddenly glad Kate's turned around. She smooths the cream in her hands before working on her back, using a touch that's halfway between efficient and affectionate. It would be a lot more affectionate with Will but he's not sitting out on the beach right now with her.
"I like the suit, by the way. Much lovelier than boring black."
"Boring Black" is actually something of a retro suit cut in a classic '40s style and actually looks rather similar to a red number Helen used to own back in the actual '40s. It had been a good find from the box and she was inclined to hold onto it until it fell apart because such things should never be taken for granted.
"And, well, I've a bit of a fantasy about Navy SEALS. Managed to get myself a rescue from an SAS man once, though, and that's the proper English version, isn't it?"
