If the situation weren't so grave, Sarah might welcome the dawn of another dismal day with a bemused laugh. Last week, she privately began chemotherapy after putting it off for too long and for the first few days, it was tolerable. After that, it became a flood of familiar symptoms and if she hadn't known any better, she might have thought she were ( Read more... )

"Sarah?"

Jesus, the woman looked like shit. Trixa had intended to spend some time ransacking the games closet, looking for a few specific items. But seeing her co-worker and friend almost doubled-over... that could wait.

"Christ, do I need to get you to the clinic?"

Sarah musters up a smile as she reaches out to rest an arm over Trixa's shoulders and give herself some support in the meantime. "Funny, I just came from there," she jokes mildly. "Seriously, I did," she says quietly to Trixa. "It's why I'm so sick." She'd been warned about the effects, but a part of her had thought that they would amount to nothing after all the battles she's waged in the past.

"Gaddamn, it, Sarah. Let's get you inside, or hell... can I help you home?"

She easily supported Sarah's weight, such as it was, she was pretty lithe to begin with and this illness didn't seem to be helping. So much for the invincible Sarah Connor.

"Home," Sarah says curtly, because she doesn't want to be going back to the clinic now that she's been there. She'll be coming back, as well, and then they'll take a look and see if the cancer has diminished in any slight capacity. "I started chemo a couple of days back," she admits, even though she's still been working lunches. "The mornings are -- they're hard."

Chemo? That had to be a neat trick on a place this. No wonder Sarah looked so terrible, that stuff wasn't pretty. Granted, dying could be worse, but still.

"Home it is, okay to walk if we go slow?" She didn't want to push Sarah any more than she had to.

"We can walk however you like," Sarah says, forcing a smile onto her face. She takes in one big breath and tells herself that she's okay, but it rings false in her own ears. It's a funny state she's in, where she doesn't even believe herself. "You don't have to do this, you know."

"Of course I don't." She chuckled, turning them towards the direction of Sarah's home. No one had to do anything here, it was the beauty of the place, after all.

"But I'm going to do it anyway." She'd be a piss-poor human if she didn't and Trixa didn't like being a piss-poor anything.

Sarah tilts her head in Trixa's direction with great and slow deliberation, careful not to go too quickly and give herself a headache. "You're very good to me," she says, cautious and wary. "And sometimes, I think that I must be the most frustrating acquaintance that's ever existed. So, thank you."

"Please, you're practically a superhero in my world. And certainly someone I've started respect even without all that."

She was a mother, someone who was willing to kill and die and tear apart anyone who harmed her children. Trixa got that. She didn't have kids, but she had brothers. First her dear Kimano, who's death she'd avenged so thoroughly, and now Griffin and Zeke... there was nothing she' wouldn't sacrifice to keep them safe. Her family. Her kin.

"You're a friend, Sarah, and I've certainly had worse."

"I'm just a woman," she insists, because she's never seen cause to get too excited about the fact that other people seem to know who she is. After all, it's dangerous, if nothing else. "I bet you've had better, though," she jokes, managing the hint of a teasing smile in Trixa's direction.

"I have had better, but I gotta say, you make up for it with excitement."

Chuckling, she gave Sarah a little squeeze. Sarah could beat up on herself all she wanted, but Trixa wouldn't buy it. Not one bit.

"I mean, cyborgs one day, passing out the next. If the Smurfs show up looking for their leader, I'll just point 'em your way."

"I might shoot them," she warns Trixa, raising one unimpressed eyebrow. "I do still have a gun at my place and if anything small and blue turns up, I'm not so sure how much my patience will last." Actually, she shouldn't admit it, but she would love to go out and pin something down with a bullet or two. Maybe that's what she ought to be asking Cal for.

"I would encourage that, actually, little blue bastards. Too many men in that village, if you ask me."

And no one understood the catharsis violence could bring more than Trixa. Pity there weren't any demon-owned clubs she could blow up, she bet Sarah would have gotten a kick out of that.

"I'd like to shoot something, in general," she admits, her tone mild given the fact that she's discussing going out with a gun and trying (not trying, doing) to kill something. It's an old habit that won't die and it's hard to fulfill here. "I'm just so short on ammo that I can't bring myself to do it."

"You know I have some I could spare. I got quite a bit when I was down at Rapture. When you're feeling better, you're welcome to it."

If she couldn't blow up something, she sure as hell could let Sarah shoot at a few things. She could afford to lose a few rounds for a reason like that.

She very rarely gets desperate in an eager way, but Sarah can feel it now, itching at her skin and making her want to promise to do anything if only she can get her hands on some of what Trixa is offering. "Do you have anything for a shotgun? I can bring it by and show you the make and model, if that helps." That edge in her voice -- the slightly wary one -- is the only sign that she really wants this.
