Wherever this was, it wasn’t where Valkyrie was supposed to be. Not that it wasn’t lovely; the beach and the ocean and the trees and all of that. It would make a nice vacation spot and she could do with a holiday after all, she’d just saved the world again and she never really got much of a holiday after any of the times she did that.
She really would have liked to be consulted before she was sent on holiday though. Granted, she would have probably picked a place like this but it was still just rude to send someone on a trip without getting their permission. Especially when she hadn’t time to dress properly, or even put on some sunscreen.
Perhaps Fletcher had done this. This was the sort of thing he would do, only he’d be right here by her side. Or she supposed it was something he would have done, before she had broken up with him. Was this the sort of thing he’d do now? They were friends though, and Fletcher had never been cruel anyways, he wouldn’t just abandon her on some island out of spite. No, he might say things that were cruel (and possibly true, but she so, so NOT going to think on that right now) but he wouldn’t do this.
That left any of her genuine enemies, which… was a very, very long list. It wasn’t helped by the fact that she couldn’t narrow the list down by who could or could not do this, since really none of them should have been able to just make her appear somewhere. The Faceless Ones could have maybe done this, pulled her into another dimension, but she doubted they would have chosen anything quite so nice.
She needed to get a better view of what was going on, maybe from a higher vantage point she could figure out where she was, or at least in what direction civilization lie. Holding her arms out to the side, palms down, she pushed down, drawing on her elemental magic to push on the air and boost her upward.
Only nothing happened. No boost, no air, no magic. Frowning, she brought up her hand and clicked her fingers together. Nothing happened. She tried again. Still nothing. Feeling a surge of panic well up in her, Valkyrie reached out for the magic contained in her black ring, getting no response there either.
“This is so not cool,” she huffed. Something was blocking her magic, and she did not appreciate it. That was going to make getting home slightly more difficult. Not impossible, of course. Magic was just one of the many amazing things about her, but it was certainly one was quite helpful when it came to getting un-kidnapped.
Taking out her phone, she hoped against hope that it would have a signal. Nothing. No magic, no cell phone signal. This was definitely not
“Bollocks,” she said, biting her lip. Now she’d be reduced to walking around in the jungle, getting all gross and sweaty and probably eaten alive by mosquitoes. So not vacation-esque at all.
“Skulduggery had better show up soon,” she muttered. Granted, it had taken her 11 months to rescue him when he was in another dimension, but he had quite a bit more experience at things than she did, so she expected him get her out much, much faster than that. She was not going to spend 11 months here. She was not going to let her reflection live her life for nearly a year. She wasn’t going to miss the first year of her baby sister’s life. No, Valkyrie would not let that happen. Nothing would keep her from her family and friends like that.
Skulduggery wouldn’t let that happen. After all, that’s what they did. They saved each other when it was needed. They were there for each other. Except when they weren’t there, and they had to go find the other and then they’d be together. Which, she supposed, was exactly what a rescue was.
In the meantime, she’d find whatever brought her here, kick its ass, and then see if she couldn’t get home on her own. The hard time she’d give Skulduggery for not rescuing her before she saved herself would be worth it.
