Usually, Jason did not bother a woman, or even a teenage girl, if they carried a weapon. There were a couple of very specific scars on him that related to these lessons. But see, this little Japanese chick kept catching his eye ( Read more... )

"...are you okay?" Cameron asked. There were a whole lot of weird things going on here, so he wouldn't be surprised if a lot was going wrong, and this guy looked like he'd been on the wrong end of something, although Cameron had no idea what. Or maybe it was something completely unrelated to the island's madness, although that might even be less desirable, likelier to last longer. Either way, the guy looked a little unnerved; it was worth checking he was alright.

[Cameron's probably at most a 1 on the Kinsey scale - very much straight, but I wouldn't rule things out altogether. Either way, he totally needs to meet more people. 8D]

"I'm just fine, man," Jason said. "And you are..." Drumroll please. "Straight. Yeah, pretty damn straight. Then again, this place can change a guy. No such thing as a conventional relationship on a magic fuckin' island."

Lafayette has better vocabulary than him, mostly.

"This shit is crazy. Every person who comes in here, I gotta tell them what they are."

"...so, what, you have the ability to read peoples'... sexuality?" Cameron asked, a little thrown by the sudden declaration. Well, that and the disclaimer following it. Around here, it was probably truer than anywhere else; this place and the people in it were unpredictable, and while he'd never had any inclination to start dating guys, there seemed to be a lot of that happening here. "That's a weird one. But I guess at least you're not turning into a mermaid, right?"

He didn't mean to make fun of that guy or anything, it was just hard to ignore that this place had given someone a tail. The whole thing was weirding him out, but he was kind of relieved he hadn't got caught up in it.

Jason was momentarily lost. He'd be such a good fucking mermaid, though. Merman. Merman. Swimming under the ocean and shit, and blowing little bubbles and singing with fish.

"A mermaid? Huh."

He shook his head until he could pay attention again.

"Yeah, it's like, uh. I don't know. Hey, who's turning into a mermaid?"

Cameron shrugged, heading over to sit on the couch. "No one I know," he said, "but I heard people talking about it at breakfast. Said some guy turned into a mermaid in the shower this morning." That had to be embarrassing, suddenly sprouting a tail and then having everyone come gawk at it. He felt kind of bad for the guy, especially since he hadn't heard if he'd turned back or just been taken down to the water. As much as Cameron loved the water, he wouldn't have wanted to live in it for a weekend.

"That is way awesome," Jason said. "You could swim underwater without drowning and shit. I guess someone would have to carry you to the ocean," he added, a bit more pragmatically.

"I'm Jason," he said, holding out his hand. "You are?"

Cameron had to give him that he was optimistic. It was a better way of looking at things, really, to see the possibilities there. He smiled, reaching over to shake Jason's hand.

"Cameron," he said. "Good to meet you, Jason. I still think I'd hold out for something other than mermaid, but, uh, yeah, you're right, that'd be cool."
