Once Bill had discovered people had woken up with powers they'd not had yesterday, he'd not been able to help the surge of excitement as he dug out his wand - it had been so long, he'd long since stopped carrying it. When it proved to still be in effect a rather useless, albeit nice-looking, piece of wood, he'd shoved it back in its place in ( Read more... )

If Aidan had gotten a power, so far he hadn't discovered what it was. After several hundred years of having special abilities though, he was oddly fine with not getting anything from the island. Being a human was perfectly fine with him.

Especially when it meant enjoying food like this. Bill was an amazing cook and Aidan always looked forward to his meals.

"This shepherd's pie smells amazing."

"Tastes even better." Sonya announced, doing her own slice of sheperd's pie a fair amount of justice.

Even better was that the lemon pound cake was now finished, baking, and Sonya had a fairly decent size on a plate next to the rest of her dinner.

"Glad I decided to come tonight then," Aidan said, giving her a smile. He was fairly sure that Bill wouldn't disappoint but it was nice to have confirmation.

"The pound cake looks good too. Or at least that big slice is a pretty decent recommendation."

She grinned. There were times when it really did seem like there wasn't enough food to keep her full, but after those months of getting sick just from the smell of food-she wasn't about to complain.

"What can I say, when the babies want something it's either 'hand over or get out of the way'."

Why not anyway, it wasn't like the rest of the food wasn't unhealthy: boar meat was good for protien, iron and potasium, and the vegetable stew was a given.

"Twins then? Congratulations," he said. Maybe it was just because he was a nurse and saw a lot of them coming in for checkups, but it seemed like there was a very large percentage of island women who were pregnant.

"What can I say, I've always been an overachiever." Her career in the army only highlighed it.

Inwardly though, she never really got the compliments of 'congradulations': it was true that she and Han were okay with having kids, but the pregnancy was still a surprise and not really one they were trying for.

"These your first?" Aidan asked. He could remember the anticipation of when he and his wife were expecting their first, excited but also scared out of their minds'.

She nodded.

"Never had the time or really the chance to have kids back home." Even when Lance was alive, they both agreed to no kids in their futures. Their careers were just too dangerious and unstable for them to safely raise kids.

"It's... an amazing experience," he said. It was almost a sort of cult, being a parent, that people couldn't understand until they became one.

"Is the father here on the island?" he asked, thinking of Martha.

"Thanks, mate," Bill said, with a grin and a nod in Aidan's direction. "I would prefer having ground beef to use instead of boar meat, but it makes a decent substitute." He'd made it several times, and it actually tasted pretty damn good, if he did say so himself.

"Where's the guy that can summon live animals, right?" he kidded. Personally, Aidan would have thought a useful power like that would have been helpful as opposed to something like... well, what most people were getting.

"That would've been dead useful," Bill agreed with a chuckle, even as an automatic recounting of Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration went through his mind. "What about you, you get any sort of ability?"

"Nothing that I know of," Aidan said, shaking his head. He supposed that it could be something he wouldn't notice right away, or that was passive until something very specific happened.

"You?"
