Karen has been looking for Rollie all morning. She's got Josiah with her, dragging him along in his cart. She's been having a one-sided conversation abotu whether 'Josie' or 'Joe' or 'Joey' suits him best but, mostly, she's been doing it to cover her rising sense of panic. Ainsley disappeared and so did Shadow; Karen's old enough to know that the island takes people all the time. She knows that. She often thinks about what would happen if, one day, she woke up and Rollie was already gone. Who would look after them? What would she do then?
The fact remained: nine makes her a big girl, but Karen is still very, very young indeed.
And she isn't ready. She just isn't ready.
Outside the clinic, she pauses.
She didn't notice it before.
It's hanging just to one side of the doorway, big and grey and heavy. One, last spring, Karen found a cocoon on the underside of a leaf and visited it every single day until, one day, she found it lying empty. She'd never seen the butterfly that emerged. Karen wipes her face with both hands, scattering the tears that she's been slowly shedding. She gets up to her feet and wanders over and gives the cocoon a solid push with one hand. Inside, something moves.
Karen tilts her head.
The tears keep rolling. She pushes the cocoon again.
"Rollie?"
ooc: Okay. I'm going to let CJ explain this for me: Rollie has been blessed with butterfly powers, but first he must emerge from his cocoon. Feel free to bump, poke, or otherwise agitate the cocoon, just don't shoot it or stab him through the middle. Rollie will emerge within a few tags. . So, yes: tag Karen and then Rollie is sure to emerge victorious within a few tags. Eww. For the record: Karen is visibly upset and would appreciate comfort and, yes, ST and LT is totally welcome.
