She was trapped. She was kneeling behind the chair as it happened again, as Hammer froze in place, and Billy came towards him with the death ray. She wanted to stand up and tell him no, that he didn’t have to do this, to ask him why he would even want to do this, but no sound comes out.

So she’s trapped, cowering behind a chair as she watches it replay itself, unable to call out a warning to Billy when he turns to look away, or to shout at Hammer to stop when he’s standing over, preparing to fire. She can’t move away and the dread rises in her, because she knows what is about to happen, but she can’t do anything about her. She can’t scream when the gun explodes, and when the shards of metal bury themselves in her chest and cause her more pain than she’s ever felt in her life, she can’t cry.

Penny wakes with a start and sits straight up, terrified and disoriented, with tears running down her cheeks. Panic fills her as she realizes this isn’t her room, but after a moment she remembers where she is, and how everything happened. She lays back down, clutching her pillow, trying to calm her breathing even as her tears start coming harder than before. It had all really happened, and now she was here, alone on a impossible island in an empty room.

About fifteen minutes later she’s sitting on the floor of the kitchen, her back up against a cabinet as she sipped the hot mug of tea in her hands. Her eyes are rimmed with red and she hasn’t even washed the tear tracks from her puffy face, but she can’t bring herself to care. She sighs and wraps her jacket around her a little tighter around her, resting her forehead against the counter and wishing she were home.

(The post takes place at around 3am. She’s not exactly in her usual happy mood, but she’ll still be nice to anyone who comes across her. ST/LT welcome.)
