Quorra had never met a dog before she came to the island, and she still tended to steer clear of them, for the most part. It wasn't that she was afraid of them, exactly. They just seemed strange and unpredictable and, frankly, kind of weird to her.
So she was not at all certain what this large white creature wanted from her when he kept running up to her on the beach with a stick in its mouth. She tried to ask it, but it only answered with a muffled bark.
"I'm sorry. I don't speak Canine," she said.
The dog dropped his stick at her feet and barked again.
"Not even when you're not speaking with your mouth full."
The dog whined, sat, and offered a paw. She did recognize the gesture as the equivalent of a human handshake and, after a brief moment of hesitation, squatted down to reciprocate.
The dog's entire body seemed to shake along with his tail, and he yipped with unmistakable happiness.
"Hello." She thought that was probably an accurate translation. "I'm Quorra. What's your name?"
The dog just barked again and picked up his stick. Quorra was still mystified as to what he wanted from her, and looked around to see if there was anyone around who might be able to translate.
[Quorra has just made the acquaintance of Simon Chicago Tam. Feel free to make introductions if your pup knows him; if they don't, he's wearing a collar with a name tag.]
