From behind her hiding spot among the chairs, Penny stared in shock at what was happening. Captain Hammer was actually going to shoot Billy. Despite everything that had happened during the speech, she had still thought he was generally a good person, just sort of a jerk. But no, instead of holding Billy for arrest, Captain Hammer was standing over him, pinning him down with his foot, about to murder him.
She stood, scared to be putting herself in between the two men, but she knew that neither of them would actually shoot her. Besides, she couldn’t just sit and watch someone get shot, especially not her friend. But she was too slow and Captain Hammer pulled the trigger, then there was a explosion, with people screaming and a burst of blinding light...
She was on her back, she realized, lying in...sand?. How had she gotten here? She could remember that Dr. Horrible had been fighting with Captain Hammer and...had Billy was there? Her mind felt like it had been swaddled in a fuzzy blanket, making it a struggle to navigate her own thoughts. “Billy?” she asked between shallow, rapid breaths. She turned her head, looking around for him, and ...oh.
She could only stare dumbly at her chest and the two large chunks of metal that were protruding from it, unable to process what was happening. There was blood on her dress. But...it was okay, she realized, a corner of her mouth turning up just a little. Everything would be okay. Captain Hammer was here, somewhere. He would save her.
