[asgard to tabula rasa]

Aug 07, 2011 20:38

The Mighty Thor in miniature had not cut his usual silhouette as he strode valiantly through Tabula Rasa's jungles over the past few days, but though his frame be but tiny, his ego seems larger in comparison. The simplest of boasts become impressive feats when coming from the mouth of an apparent child, his body not aged a day over twelve mortal ( Read more... )

Billy had no intention of letting his change get in the way of his swimming -- despite school being out, he was still practicing every day. He'd stuck to his old swim trunks and a black tank top, and though they both fit him a bit more snug than he'd have liked, it worked for him.

He'd barely made it to the waterfall and put his stuff aside before a kid surfaced, looking like he was concentrating on just getting to the shore. Billy walked over, ready to jump in if he was needed, but it looked like the kid was okay. ...And he was dragging a familiar looking hammer out of the water behind him. Billy stared, mouth ajar.

"Thor?"

Who the hell else would be dragging Mjolnir from the bottom of the waterfall?

"Yes?" asks Thor, propping himself up on his elbows to get a better look at the woman who'd spoken his name. Though she's certainly beautiful, however, he finds her a stranger, prompting him to wonder if she hasn't been affected by the Island's magics, as well, unless she, too, is from a world similar, but not identical to his own, like so many others he's encountered here since his arrival.

"I'm sorry, but do we know each other?"

Well, at least he talked like Thor did, and not like a mini-Thor who didn't know what was going on would have. Billy thought so, anyway. He pushed his glasses up onto his head, brushing stray curls out of the way.

"It's Billy Kaplan," he explained, and shrugged. Being embarrassed about his current appearance didn't really seem to matter when it was Thor, whatever his age. He doubted anyone but Steve Rogers could feel anything but inadequate around the thunder god.

"You've... grown," says Thor after a suitable pause, in as diplomatic a tone he could ever manage, for diplomacy is not something he's yet mastered even as an adult. With Billy's identity revealed, however, it's easier to see the similarities, particularly in the colouring of the hair and eyes, and he takes the trick for truth. Billy might be his own sister.

"Is it very strange?"

"Yeah," Billy answered, like that was even a question. He still felt a little off every time he walked, and he was sure that wouldn't wear off until he was back to normal. "I wish I'd had your luck, I think I would have preferred being a kid again."

"You say that as though you are not still one now," says Thor with a childish laugh that belies his true age. "That wouldn't have been much of a change at all, Billy Kaplan."

Secretly Billy kind of enjoyed the way Thor said his whole name, even when it was coming from a much, much younger voice. The confidence that came with being the god of thunder was still there, however old his body was now.

"Hey, I'm not that young," he protested, knowing he was probably barely a blip in the lifespan of a god. "I'm going to be eighteen soon."

"Only in the realm of men is that considered old," Thor says, shaking his head in rueful disbelief. He's over a thousand years old, and still Laufey would call him a boy; someone like Billy hardly stands a chance. "Enjoy your youth, my friend. It's the time for adventure!"
