[asgard to tabula rasa]

Aug 07, 2011 20:38

The Mighty Thor in miniature had not cut his usual silhouette as he strode valiantly through Tabula Rasa's jungles over the past few days, but though his frame be but tiny, his ego seems larger in comparison. The simplest of boasts become impressive feats when coming from the mouth of an apparent child, his body not aged a day over twelve mortal ( Read more... )

Just as Thor suspected, Loki does follow him, trailing his brother around the island. The dinosaurs were a bit more than he bargained for and for a while he parts ways with Thor to do some exploring of his own before coming across him again at the waterfall. He arrives just in time to see his brother dive and watches for a while as he swims. Thor's sudden return to the surface only to quickly dive once more, confuses him, but not as much as his slow return after that. From where Loki sits it looks almost as if Thor has something in tow and he is on the brink of diving in to help when he finally comes up with Mjolnir.

Why the hammer would be lying for Thor to find in a pool is beyond Loki, especially when it was last in their father's treasure vault, but he doesn't worry about it overmuch. He trusts that his brother knows the reason and moves to sit next to him, smiling simply because Thor is. He does not think he has seen him this happy since he arrived.

"I wondered when you might appear," says Thor, sitting up a little to greet Loki, though still breathless from the exertion. He's nearly boneless in the way he flops back onto the rocks, raking a hand through sopping wet hair to get it out of his face, but his smile is forever present, his hand resting protectively over Mjolnir's handle. "Have you been following me long, brother?"

"Only a little while," Loki says and technically it isn't a lie. It is only a slight twisting of the truth. After all, he did take a break for a time after the dinosaurs and Thor never asked if the following had been uninterrupted. But there are more important questions than that. Questions about why Mjolnir was in a waterfall. Loki doesn't ask though and just looks at the mighty weapon instead. Ever since the first time he saw the hammer with their father in the vault, he has been drawn to it, hoping and wishing that it might one day be his. Now here it is, up close and unguarded and his fingers creep closer of their own accord to brush it longingly. One day maybe...

When it comes to Mjolnir, Thor's eyes are sharp, and he bats Loki's hand away before it gets too close. Without Odin's enchantments, anyone with enough strength could lift it whenever they pleased, and he knows he'll have cause to protect it from his brother both now and when they are returned to normal.

"Touch not what isn't yours, brother."

Loki's eyes narrow when Thor bats his hand away like that and he retreats into his own space. He supposes that Thor must have received the hammer from Odin at some point in the future, which makes sense really, after all he is the oldest, but it still irritates Loki. Why should Thor have gotten it and not him? Thor isn't all that special, he's just larger and stronger. Loki is the one who is smarter and isn't that good enough reason to deserve Mjolnir? "I didn't know it was yours," he replies sullenly, still looking at the hammer. Why can't they share it? "You never told me."

"It's been lost since I arrived here," he explains, still watching Loki carefully. In this, at least, he does not trust his brother, regardless of age. "I've only just found it again. You come into possession of Gungnir later in life, but I don't know that it came with you."

Thor hopes it hasn't; even if it would be nothing more than a spear without its enchantments, its rightful owner is Odin. The only reason Loki came about it at all was because Father fell into the Odinsleep.

After a few moments spent debating the merits of Gungnir versus Mjolnir, Loki nods, his mind made up. Gungnir is a weapon of the King of Asgard and their father would never simply give it away. Clearly he must get to be King at some point, though how Thor could forget to mention that important fact is beyond him. He supposes he can let Thor have Mjolnir if it means he gets to be king.

"Perhaps it fell into the water as well," Loki says, scanning the pool as if looking at it hard enough will reveal any possible hiding places.

"You could take a better look tomorrow," Thor suggests, glad that his brother has taken to the distraction without much protest, "when the sun is higher in the sky, perhaps. You won't have much luck finding anything in there now."

As much as Loki hates to admit it, Thor is right. Any searching for Gungnir will have to be postponed until later. He drums his fingers on the ground, humming idly before looking pointedly at Thor, the question clear on his face. He is getting bored and a bored Loki is never a good one.

"Can we do something? Something fun? Or must you watch Mjolnir the whole day?"

"We could hunt," says Thor, drawing himself up to a more vertical sitting position. He doesn't point out that he's hardly been watching Mjolnir the whole day, given the amount of land he's covered since waking, but with the setting of the sun, it occurs to him he hasn't had much more than fruit since earlier this afternoon.

"Hunting is always fun."

Loki spends some time giving it thought. Hunting is as good an idea as any, though it does raise some problems. If they are to hunt they will need weapons of some sort, more than Mjolnir at any rate. But he is confident that they can get around that handicap somehow. After all, they are the sons of Odin. Thor is strong and Loki is clever, and as long as they work together there is not much they can't accomplish.

"What shall we hunt? One of the lizards may be too big... A boar perhaps?"

"A boar would prove a good feast for us, I think," says Thor with a nod, drawing his legs beneath him so that he might stand. Bringing Mjolnir along with them at this size isn't all that practical, but the hut is not so far away; he could return there with the hammer, and get the supplies they'll need.

"Come, let us to the hut. We can gather some weapons, then set out before it gets too dark."

"Perhaps I could help you carry it?" Loki stands just to Thor's right, flicking his gaze hopefully between his brother and the hammer. Maybe, just maybe, if he asks in the right way Thor will break down and let him have just the tiniest of chances. Almost without thinking he adopts an expression that is hopeful, trustworthy and pitiful in equal parts. It is a look that has found success before in getting his older brother to let him have a turn with his toys and Loki can only hope it will work now.

"Only for a moment. I promise I won't harm it. Please, Thor?"
