Potty time!
Being little was fun. Except that people got upset when he went off alone. People like Cissie. She wanted to go everywhere with him, and that was dumb. Which was a bad word, one he wasn’t supposed to say out loud, but it was true. He didn’t want her to follow him. Especially since he really had to go.
“You can’t follow me into the potty, you’re a girl!”
Maybe Bart was having a great time but Cissie was so not. It was not bad enough that her boyfriend was tiny and wanting to run around like a maniac, oh no. She had to go and wake up as a guy. She felt weird, she had a headache and she just knew if she let Bart out of her sight, very bad things would happen.
“I’m not a girl right now,” she insisted, putting her hands on her hips. “And you are only four. You can’t go in there by yourself.”
“Nuh-uh,” Bart said, crossing his arms. “You’re still a girl. And girls don’t go in boys’ bathrooms. I can go by myself.”
“No, you can’t. You really, really can’t,” Cissie glared down at him. “Please, Bart. Just let me go in and then you can do your stuff and then we’ll leave and I don’t know, go find Kon and Krypto.”
“You can stay here, I go in. You don’t even have to go!” Bart insisted, glaring back up. Then he reconsidered. “Or you go get Kon. I’ll go potty by myself. I’m big.”
“We could both go get Kon,” Cissie suggested, hoping against hope that this would actually work. “And then he can go in with you. Either way, you’re not going in there by yourself.”
“I have to gooo,” Bart protested.
Arguing wasn’t getting them anywhere so maybe it was time to try another tactic. Cissie bent down so she was eye-level with Bart and put her hands on his shoulders. “I know and the sooner you let me come in with you, the sooner you’ll be all done.”
Bart pulled free, turning to look at the person who had rounded the corner. “Tell her! ‘Splain why girls don’t go potty with boys,” he pleaded, eyes huge.
